Yay our stallion passed (again)

The stallion we have on loan was like our own originally registered and vet inspected with the British Database.
When that went bankrupt we were offered the opportunity to transfer to Weatherby's, which we did. His owner however didn't, and so his registration lapsed, leaving his offspring without proper breeding papers.
We issued passports with the foals etc but it was annoying knowing he had been inspected once.
This morning aged 16 he had a full inspection (eyes, conformation, soundness/wind/heart etc) and passed with glowing colours, the vet said he looked in fabulous condition and complimented us.
Chocolate was so laid back it wasn't true, only bucking on the lunge !
The only peeving thing is it cost us £421... Weatherbys have all his bloodtyping etc in their database records, but refused to recognise them as accurate.
So this year we will stand him at stud, as well as compete him in some BE. He can start at Pre-Novice as he flew roun the STockland Lovell course when doing his third Hunter Trial.
His fertility with us over four years has been 100% so we feel happy about taking outside mares.
Early start to the day, I'm glad that's over with now. He will get a Weatherby's stallion book and I can issue covering certificates again....

Fantastic news. I must come and see him - shall do you and Sallyf on the same day, so will PM you when we have some possible dates.
 
That's great news, so pleased for you.

Look at it this way, with having proper certificates, hopefully you'll get some extra and nice mares to him so a couple of those and the charges will have been paid for - it still hurts though having to pay to have them all done again I know!

Ah but unfortunately it doesnt finnish there as you have to buy the covering certificates as well.
Although they arnt too bad if stud fee is under £400 .
Actually sometimes when you first register they let you have the first year for nothing.
But the ones for our big T.B stallion are over £200 a year.
Congratulations anyway its nice to be able to issue proper covering certs for him.
 
Thanks Sally, I just wish his owner had kept his reg up to date as it's been an expensive lesson to learn, we paid to have our own moved over to Weatherby's but she didn't.. The database should never have folded, apparently very little money was needed to keep it going, infuriating they abandoned the idea..
As you said, it gets worse with the covering certificates, we expect to cover at least three of our own and possibly take in a few mares, he can be ridden by anyone coming to view him so at least they see what they''re likely to get!
W'bys of course have a limit on five certificates before they up their fees, and he is likely to be £300 at stud so should stay within reach of most people's budget.
Took some pics of the foals tonight as they had been in for the vet, Callisto looks lovely if very very woolly.. From being the most nervous he is now the cheekiest!
Now to start the long process of bloodtyping and registering all his stock.I don't think they will overstamp their current passports, so will have to go right from scratch..
 
They may do ask.
My mares have all got SHB passports and they overstamped them .
I believe that horses are only supposed to have one passport these days by law.
