Yearling not loosing his coat

My yearling gelding is a warmblood x TB he’s huge like well over 15.2 already. He seems himself super laid back and happy but his coat hasn’t come out. It doesn’t want too either. His skin is in nice condition he could put a bit of weight on but it out on good grass. Any thoughts?

He’s due his second flu jab so vets will be out soon anyway. I just wondered if it’s common? I do tend to overly worry but other than the coat he’s in fab condition it just looks like cat hairs in certain areas?
 
It's still only May. Summer coats come through, usually, by mid July.

However, if he's a bit poor them that could be a reason for not starting to shed.
 
I bought a weaned foal ID cross in June one year and it took him nearly till winter the following year to lose his foal coat so he went almost straight away into a winter coat. He is two this time and is getting a proper summer coat. He has never been poor, he just grows a lot.
 
It's perfectly normal, OP. Foal coats often take longer to shed than adult ones, as demonstrated by my own yearling. We have smooth hair on her bottom and neck already - although not a proper summer coat quite yet - but still a very fluffy tummy and sides. No need to worry about it :)

Thanks everyone the native babies all look so good I was a bit worried his legs and chest look fab. I am wary of giving too much hard feed so hopefully the grass will sort him out.
 
With such a big yearling I think you need to keep him on the lean side but up his mineral intake, make sure he has plenty of copper as that's commonly deficient and linked to coat problems. I have 2 yearlings, one shed out totally a month or so ago and looks superb, the other is hanging onto a big of hair around her belly still
 
Just as a side note, has he been wormed? We have a yearling warmblood filly who seemed very laidback and whilst happy in herself was clinging onto her thick coat. Turns out she had a bit of a worm burden. Now wormed she is much brighter, energetic and has almost lost her winter fluff with lovely summer coat coming through.
 
Yes he’s just been done last month. He’s always despite some breeding that should say otherwise totally laid back. Wonder if it’s worth doing a worm count too. He spends most of his days sleeping my little girl was cuddling him laid in the field yesterday I keep hoping it will hold for riding 🙈
 
My 12yo still has a lot of her winter coat, the clip lines are still visible. She does it every year. It looks crap until July. Don't worry too much at this point, he may just be a winter coat clinger like mine! She's mostly native (welsh/irish with a dab of TB and something else).
 
I have a purebred arab yearling who is just loosing his coat properly now. He had a hernia operation a couple of weeks ago, as well as spending the winter out and unrugged which is why i think he has held a bit more.
 
The coats are really taking their time this year. My mare usually has her coat in and at the mo she is still half winter!
