hi, I've just bought a black tobiano British warmblood colt (weanling) and i am aiming to compete him at the highland show 2013, he will be a yearling at the time and probably still a colt and i will be competing him in a sport horse qualifier (or something along those lines). i haven't got a lot of experience with in hand and not a very large budget to spend on bridles etc so what kind of bridle; without bit or with? have been told different things by different people! i have been told to wear all white, so does this mean shirt&Tie? what kind of trousers? etc. and any tips? thanks :)

p.s sorry for all the questions lol!x

I would pref use a bridle with a bit, if he has black or dark legs white trousers and if white legs dark trousers, that's what I've been told!

I will be showing my then 2 year old next year at the highland and for sports horses you were all white. Would you not be better in the coloured youngstock classes though?
Q

Thank you, he has 4 white legs!
I was recommended to do the sports horses but I think I'm going to see how he gets on at a couple of smaller shows before hand! Thanks again :)

White legs then I'd personally wear dark pants so the judge isn't watching a 6 legged horse run around!
I'd be tempted to show him in a leather headcollar with a leather show lead rein :)

Thank you! Think dark trousers are possibly the way forward! I'm not to keen on showing him in a bridle as he will still be a baby, but I'm open to options! Thank you again :)

I would defentaliy says white for sports horse as if you are to wear black you will be marked down and be odd one out. But in any other classes you could wear black so take a spare pair if you decided to do other classes. I would use bitless Inhand bridle with chain if he's a yearling as only natives should be in halters. Also he sounds like he would do very well in coloured classes. Good luck its a nightmare getting kitted out for showing lol!!

Thank you, think I'm going to go for bitless and take a couple of trousers lol, it's not until June but I know if I leave it, I'll never be prepared lol! Thank you again:)

You have to wear white for sports horse classes in Scotland.
I wear white trousers, white long sleeved top, white gillet, white gloves and a beagler with jodhpurs boots.
Horse in an in hand bridle with rubber bit. Long leather lead.
I find at that age it is much too dangerous not to bit.
There may be pics in my profile of me showing my then yearling at the highland show.

Same as Lianne. Always full whites for sports horse.

For other classes personally I don't like black trousers, I would go for navy or dark green.

I always bit colts from yearlings upwards - its compulsory at 2yo anyway.
