Yearling with no respect!

Help

! My yearling has always been fairly good to handle however recently he's turned into a nightmare and his lack of respect is starting to worry me. I'm really trying consistantly with him but it's getting worse. He doesn't understand personal space at all I really want to sort this out! I've tried growling, shouting, dominant body language etc, he just stands there! If anyone has any idea's of what I can do with him I'd be really grateful as I'm running out!

Are you using correct body language, if you turn your back on him start to reverse and lash out with your leg, self preservation should make him move (this is what another p*ssed off horse would do to him)

Also is he out with others? they need to learn from other horses otherwise you might end up with a monster.

He's out with 3 older mares since he was 7 months (15months now) 24/7 who up until recently were all very dominant with him but recently that's all changed. He doesn't boss them around but he gets away with whatever he likes!

don't stress, they have to learn these things from us they aren't born knowing

mine is a git too, but he's learning

i find rope twirling effective at the moment

i twirl the end of a rope and he keeps that distance away from me.

say i twirl the last foot of his leadrope at him, he can't push his face into mine then. and if it catches him its ok cos i'm not putting lots of energy into the twirls, just enough to put him off

Stand up straight, stare him in the eye, stamp your foot, flap a line across you to make a noise and make him move away. If all that fails than try rattling a plastic bag at him

You have to make him move away, and make sure he maintains a respectful distance in your company.

He sounds a bit over handled. Once you have got him to move out of your space, I'd be inclined to turn him away for a bit, so he can 'forget' that humans are friendly playthings for him to mob

Thanks for that, I didn't think I'd maybe overhandled him. I'll think about that option.
