Hi guys would really appreciate if anyone could help. I have recently bought a yearling, however I have never dealt with owning a yearling before. She isn't handled and we can't get a head collar on her. The other day I noticed a horn like growth in her ear I'm not too sure what it is so I have attached photo to this thread. Also what vaccinations will I be needing to get her and do I need to work her now????
Thanks in advance Snapchat-308960473.jpg

It's probably earwax caught up in hair fluff. Leave it alone until she is happy to be handled then cut it off with a pair of scissors.

What do you mean by work her?

Sorry I was half asleep writing this work her wasn't even supposed to be in it😂. Thanks for your help.!

You need to win her trust slowly and calmly it would be easier in a small space on her own just sit quietly reading a book until she gets curious but dont grab at her. once you can stroke her you will be able to get her head collar on. She needs all the same regular care as any other horse.Flu tet jabs, hoof care and good (balanced for growth) grub. The ear thing may be nothing or something but until you can handle her its best avoided as horses re really sensitive about their ears

It's hard to know what the growth is without knowing what it is made of. Follow the steps in the book Brownmare recommended and you won't go far wrong. Once you can handle her quietly and get a headcollar on get the vet to give the inoculations and while he is there look at the ear.
