Yearling needs to travel for 1st time in trailer tomorrow. Would you take everything out (partition, breast bar) or just take partition out and leave breast bar in? I'm a bit worried about the bar issue incase she gets stuck on it or under it!

Suggestions?

My yearling travels like any 'normal' horse, tied up with partition, with haynet etc etc. He is very very well handled and as well behaved as my 16 year old though. I guess it depends how much yours has done before etc

Doe she tie up OK cos this is quite important. I have just got my yearling travelling and she goes in with partition and ties up like a grown up! I would do lots of practice before actually go anywhere.

I fed my yearling just on the ramp for a couple of nights, then asked her to put her front feet on and eat a bit further up the ramp and then the next day just stood with her and talked to a friend and she walked right in. Fed her in the trailer for a few nights with her standing in with ramp up, and then took her around hte block. Next go was a real show! I have had no problems, she is cool and doesn't panic.

I tested my yearling in the trailer tied up for the 1st time at the weekend, she's travelled miles before but loose and she ties up really well on the yard so it was a case of combining the 2.
Well she walked straight on, tied up and did a 15min "round the block" drive with no worries, we unloaded clamly and then represented her to load of which she did herself and waited nicely and was rewared with some nuts

Next trip will be her 1st show on the 5th July which will be a 20min drive away.

If my girl will tie up okay and there is a full width breast bar I'd leave it in.

Friend's yearling is smaller than your girly: he walked straight on to the trailer and travelled the best out of all of them the other day
