What a long road I have been on with my boy.

He has been on and off lame for the last few years, haven't been able to get him going at all.

Well I'm starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel, man, do I hope we are nearly there.

My (useless) vet wanted him in wedges, with steroid injections, suspected DDFT injuries. Well I allowed myself to be converted by the barefoot taliban on here.

Nearly 4 months on from having his shoes off, he is moving better than ever, tracking up again (he hasn't tracked up for years!! :D ) He looks more fluid, and like an real horse that can move again.

Last hurdle (I hope!), he has a terribly bad back, we think from all the years of walking funny, and holding himself awkwardly, and we have who looks like a fabulous sports physio coming tomorrow to make him feel better. After that..... the skys the limit?! who knows, I might even get him back eventing again, and last year I was thinking he would have to get PTS, spent a whole day crying.

I really really hope my gorgeous boy is going to be feeling like his old self again.
Send me some vibes?!

This was him, back when the poor lad could move!

Fantastic news, this is a real incentive to me as I have been through the same, I too have now gone barefoot so I am hoping in time my boy will come right too!

I really don't like wedges either. Your horse looks lovely and i hope the barefoot route works out for you. I wish it had been better understood as an option ten years ago when my old gelding had awful lameness problems.

Vets, physios, farriers, etc can all be invaluable, but if your horse tells you to ignore them, sometimes its the right thing to do.

Sending you some ((((((((((vibes))))))))
I hope you have finaly found the answer for your horse and he's back to his old self soon. :)

That's really encouraging news. Wedges can really do more harm than good - and not suitable for all horses at all.

Good luck with the recuperation.

Best wishes for tomorrow. You may well have exercizes to follow up with.

It's amazing how some horses compensate for hoof discomfort and it all gets diagnosed as this, that or the other when the hooves are ignored or propped up in one way or another. Also not surprizing that tendons and ligaments get strained. He is making tremendous and rapid progress, don't be disillusioned if there is the odd set back so long as he continues to improve over all he will just get better and better. :)

Thanks everyone :D Yeah, I'm sure we might have a few stumbling blocks along to the finish line, but I'm just soo glad he seems to looking and feeling better, finally!

Going to post some more pics of his hoovsies again soon for an update :)

Brilliant news!!! Looking forward to more positive updates!

We took OH mare barefoot a couple of years ago (after a little animal testing on my mare as the first we took barefoot lol, just to check her feet really didn't just wear away!), and the change is imense. We have had alot of challenges along the way, but the lame/wrecked back/ready for retirement mare we had a couple of years ago is now on the form of her life and a happy sound soul!

There is life and work after shoes, best of luck!!

Fab news:)

Brightened up a bad day.

I'm indulging myself in feeling a little smug and an "I told you so".

I think I made the call about needing a body worker at some point too

Obvs, I should have mentioned you and said how fab you have been being my barefoot agony aunt :)

She's been today, and was lovely. A poorly fitting saddle wasn't helping matters, so dusted off an even wider saddle that fits nicely (fat sod he is!), lots of exercises to do, so give us a month and we may well be off good and proper! :D :D

Did I mention needing a new saddle in the beginning too ;)
