To add my family aren't horsey, I was only introduced to horses because our neighbour had a horse for her daughter and a companion pony in need of a job.

I got my first pony, Rusty, when mum was 7 months pregnant with me :) I've been so lucky, I'm 21 now and haven't ever been without one yet :) Both parents were VERY horsey which helped.

Aw, you haven't got a box for me to tick. I started riding when I was 3 years old, and that was a lot longer ago than 20 years. You need a box that says "Since Victorian times". Sigh.

Been riding since I was 2 & now 22 so put 16-20 years because technically didn't do a lot with them till I was prob 5..? only owned 2 but loaned a far few!

23 years unfortunately for my bank balance! I blame my mother and grandmother! THey always had horses so me and my sister naturally got ponies too! Though I have taken it far to the extreme now and have 14 of the darned things and work with them everyday!

Is there a cure for this - well I suppose many would call it a disease, I would call it an everlasting perculiarity?

i'm with tinypony ! been riding for the last 35 years and owned a horse for the last 26 years ! the oldest one i currently own is 28 years old I brought her when she was an unbroken 3 year old, how time fly's - whats really frightening is her son is now 20, they now happily enjoy a healthy retirement together :)

I must say i cant imagine life without horses and will hopefully will enjoy looking after them and riding for many a year to come, there are still quite a few years till i retire :)

Cant remember learning to ride, my mum had horses from when she was a child my dad was always interested but his family couldn't afford.

I was lucky enough to be brought up around them so a horsey family now and have been for a long time and i loved my dartmoor first pony who used to run away with me all the time.:) So all of my life.

Oh crikey:eek: I sat on my first horse 45 years ago, I have actually had horses for over 40 years now.

I am now going to go back to my corner and rock gently (with a big glass of Chivas)...where did the years go?

I thought at first that the question was ownership of horses...in which case the longest I've had a horse for has been 12 years.

OMG, am prob similar age (or +more!) :o

Was plonked on my 1st at about 6 months which was a 12.2 show pony (apparently!) in the yard where my mum was head girl.

Shed loads of equines later, of mine and others.........

Am feeling very ancient at looking at some of the comments above in this thread :o

mum has always ridden since she was about 8 or 9 she had 2 of her own a few years before my sisters time and then when she was born bought a little welsh a i first sat on him when i was about 18 months old and have never got of horses since. he became mine as my sister lost interest. so i have been lucky to always have my own pony now horse apart from the month or so gaps between.
