Awesome horse, I had the pleasure of seeing him at Ballydoyle a couple of years ago and he really is the most impressive animal to look at.

Thrilled for him and all of the team that he has done it!

Fantastic!!

Amazing horse and he truly epitomises a true racing legend. To me he has it all. Class, stature, ability, strength, conformation, athleticism, even temperament and truly gives his all in a race, especially at Royal Ascot. If only I was fortunate enough to own a half decent national hunt broodmare as I would love to see this horse sire some National Hunt legends (nevermind the flat lol).

Fabulous horse. Brilliant race to watch. I loved it when Her Majesty stopped him on the way back to his stable to admire him.
wish I had been there.

Huge congratulations to all his contacts!

Wow!
I too was brought to tears by his performance! What a stunning amazing horse!

A truely stunning performance, what a horse. Congratulations to all those connected with him. What I'd do for a chance of having a mare covered by him. I hate to think what the stud fees will be when he retires

Very sad news though is that the Godolphin-trained Veracity which broke down after making most of the running in the race, was put down yesterday. The horse had suffered a fractured cannon bone. It was said that they had hoped to operate but he could not be saved. ( see Racing Post for story) A sad loss for connections, especially the groom, as they are the ones I always feel most sorry for at times like this.

Yeah, what an amazing horse. have had the pleasure of taking Sea the stars up the gallops in the early part of his 2 yo year, but really am in awe of Yeats. I wouldnt mind getting a mare to put to him in a few yars time. Woudltn be surprised if he became an NH sire tbh. After last year, it looked like he might take that route but with 4 GC under his belt it would be hard not to market him to flat breeders I uppose.

What kept him off the track after he won the Derrinstown as a 3yo? Does anyone know?
He'd followed the Derby prep route and was unbeaten in his first three races.

Given he came back to win the Coronation Cup at Epsom a year later over the Derby trip, you have to wonder whether he may have been the Derby hero for '94, and we would never have seen him the way we see him now.

Johnny Murtagh reckoned on Thursday the horse could win an Arc, and whilst I'd say that was in the heat of the moment, and as an 8yo it would be to big an ask, I wonder how he would have fared given the chance earlier in his career?

I think he was only campaigned at the longer distances because he really does stay, not because he doesn't also have the pace or class to have won over the middle distance.

The Coolmore breeding programme is to find classic winners, and give them as many opportunities to shine as possible, and with the quantity of quality colts at Ballydoyle, it would have been madness to pitch Yeats in aginst them, when he might have beaten them over the middle distances.

I think he's been campaigned as a stayer by the twist of fate that kept him out of the '94 Derby, and the Coolmore stallion production line to produce Derby winners, not through a lack of ability.

I think we've had this discussion before, Glenruby!

Either way, he's up there in the elite roll call of heroes. And I'd send him classic mares (if only I had some!) as soon as he retired.

Yes Gonetofrance - i think we did discuss this last year! Id only be hoping he became a NH sire as I doubt il ever be able to afford to put a flat broodmare to him, but maybe a NH one!

Surely you'd only want to breed a flat broodmare to him if you were breeding to race, as there would be little to no commercial value in the offspring. Whereas as a NH sire he would be highly marketable. I say this despite his performances as a younger horse.

I will say though, that he is a nasty sod - possibly why he is so tenacious on the racecourse.

Doubt he'll make a flat sire which is sad..I can't see people sending him mares for flat racing, they'd want something with a bit more pace, milers i think. And cuz he was never given the chance in derby/arc/King G flat breeders would over look him. Westerner would appeal more, offer a bit more class and compete with him I think.
He'll make it as a NH sire for sure, I just wish i had a nice mare to send to him and some money for the stud fee ..ahhh hes such a nice type

Whilst I sadly accept that he may well be marketed as a NH horse, I think it is a shame.

But Westerner with more class/speed........I can't agree with that.... he's only won twice under 16f........compared to Yeats eight wins under 16f......

Y'know I wrote something and then realised it made no sense at all

On review I completely agree with you, if i had a choice Westerner/Yeats I would def go with Yeats. I just kinda thought that horses that would appeal to Yeats would also appeal to Westerner and that Westerner had the edge because (dare I say this!) the horses he ran against e.g 2005 Arc were a bit more classier that what Yeats has come up against. And this is when i realised that I didn't make sense and Yeats held his form much better and i think, given the opportunity, Yeats would have probs ran equally as well in those races and on reflection he has come up against some decent types and yeah ...... well, in conclusion, I don't get flat racing ..roll on the Autumn
