Hi all, when bringing my horse in from the field this afternoon, she had a rather big yellow poo, the outside was brown but the inside was a yellowy light brown- not normal. She ate fine, has lots of gut movement and is very alert to everything. I was just wondering if this was a sign of any form of worms or something similar? Thank you all ?

As far as I know, loose dung can be indicative of worms, it certainly was in one of my yearlings. I had a horse that used to do rather nasty smelling, soft, yellow dung when he was changing his coat in Spring and I wondered if the grass coming through caused it. Maybe just keep an eye on this and if it persists send off a dung sample for a worm count or have a word with your vet.

Mine will do lighter brown/yellow poops depending on the cut of hay, and how much of that they're eating vs grass. I have noticed too that it tends to be with stalkier, rougher hay. At a guess, I'd say it's because it doesn't digest down as much or as easily as softer hay, but that is just a vague guess. Never caused an issue though :)
