Yellow snot

Visit site
today when my horse came down the feild he had yellow snot running down his left nostril. he seems normal other than that as he was keen to eat and seemed himself, contacted my vet and she said it sounds like it could be a cold and that i was to just to observe him. just wonderd if any one had any advice or had this happend to them?

In which case it is probably nothing to worry about. Monty had allergies in the summer which would make him get very snotty. He also had head colds in Winter so would get snotty!!!! As long as she is fine in herself, there is probably no cause for alarm.

In my experience it is only the thicker, gunky snot that is indicative or more sinister things.
 
Just to be clear: antibiotics won't touch a cold, assuming it is a virus as colds are in humans. Antibiotics kill bacteria. Viruses normally have to be dealt with by the body's own immune system. The only time you might be surprised to find antibiotics prescribed is where a secondary bacterial infection has been picked up as a result of a viral infection or even an allergy. My horse had a very bad episode of summer pasture allergy last year, made worse by a virus that went round the yard causing chest infections. Because he coughed so much he developed a secondary bacterial infection of the larynx, poor lad. He was on Ventipulmin, Sputolosin and Noradine (antibiotic).
