Loved it ! So nice the chap said good boy every time his horse jumped a fence, think he knew the riderless horse too who he took with him to the finish chatting to him the whole way !
Apparently his wife’s horse or so a report said. No idea if true. I liked the stay out the way instructions to the loose horse going into some of the fences.

It is his wife's horse, yes. She was the one who came off midway and he shouted back to see if she was OK. He is a lovely lovely jockey - a few of his open team-chasing vids are definitely worth a watch too.

Thanks - I think it is lovely for the horse to go and have fun doing something like that rather than becoming a dressage horse or a show horse and go round and round in circles (says someone who has an RoR dressage and show horse).

And like he said, it is so easy for them, as it is way below their previous level - the speed and opposition and pressure are so much less. And I think (or would like to hope - although I may be anthropomorphising?) more interesting, with the different types of fences, open fields and much less crowding of other horses. I have done hunt races with a few ex-chasers. They don't all work though. Some just can't cope with or entertain anything other than chase fences, some get too wound up/strong, and others aren't careful enough to be safe over fixed rails or walls. And although jumping technique can improve a lot when you take the speed/pressure off a bit there are some you couldn't pay me to jump a fixed fence on! I had one horse who'd had a good career in Ireland, during which he never fell or unseated, who was foot perfect over gates or rails, but would rather stop than have to brush through a hedge.

He also said that having a horse like Lostintranslation was not in the spirit of those races. Seems like a very sporting chap all round. Good example…..

I watched the film and was very impressed by the rider's capacity to ride in a calm and encouraging way - also his stickability over some quite large fences.
I hope his wife was OK after her tumble.
