i am basically pondering whether or not to sell blue... i don't want to but people are saying y why not get something that does 1.20m tracks and higher at shows, she does 1.25m at home but at a push 1.10 at shows... i fought so hard to have her i LOVE her!! but i would love another one maybe 16hh as she is 14'2..she is soo amazing and the thought of someone else falling for her makes me jealous!!!

any help with my insanity welcome

Is it important to you to jump 1.20 at shows??? Personally, I am happy with a lovely horse that I can enjoy and compete at their own level.....But I am not very competitive and just enjoy having my horses....

i know i feel like crying just at the thought!! its hard when you really do want to jump higher and get serious about this sj lark... i mean blue really is great but sometimes i think that she would be better off with someone else that would do well at her level and not keep on pushing her, she lives to jump ... and i am worried i will get too big for her :(

It all depends how serious you are about progression, when you weigh it up with the strength of your feelings for the mare. The thing is, if you keep pushing her up beyond her limits, pretty soon she will start to lose heart and then it will be horrid for both of you. I've seen this with so many horses - a pony I had once had been a fairly successful JC in her time, but by the time she reached her late teens she had become fed up with people pushing her over her limits, and would not willingly jump a thing. Its a real shame to see a talented albeit limited horse get to this point - so I think you either need to be content to drop down a bit and be successful (and happy!) at the level at which she is comfortable, or else sell her onto a home where she will be able to compete at a lower level :)

I had the opposite problem in a way - my mare could have gone so much further than I took her - my limitations held her back! Good luck with whatever you decide - if you love her to bits, it isnt going to be easy for you :(

thankyou for the feedback :) the previous owner who is at my yard got to the same thing she loved her and wanted to go higher...when i got her she had started stopping but she got good again :) although she had got too big i dont think i will grow alot more :) i think i will sit on it for a while longer....i just love her to bits :( but i want her to happy, we are so good together but i just want whats best for her at the end of the day!!

If progessing in SJ is what you want, then maybe it is time to move onto something bigger. There is not point pushing her, as you run the risk of "breaking" her.
I know it is hard, but you have to do whats best for you and her, and if that means moving on, then thats what you have to do.
Good luck!
