Pretty much what it says in the title. Mr perfect horse decided he wasn't so perfect after all. After a hit and miss schooling session he decided that he would spook at the area next to the school where the jumps are kept, he does spook there, usually I put him into shoulder in or leg yield to distract him but he had just stopped dead cos some horses had gone up the lane past school, I had kicked him on into trot, he spooked, i said don't be so bleep bleep rude and gave a strong half halt, he said s*d off and reared. I slid down back of saddle, feet came out of stirrups and think I may have pulled on his mouth which casued him to rear again and spin round and I hit the arena. He canter off a bit then stopped dead and just stared at me sat on the floor weezing as had the wind knocked out of me.
Its quite funny cos I had one of those am I arnt I moments and I think if he hadn't done it a second time may have stayed on. Its funny cos my first thought was "thank god i haven't wet myself, then hope someone saw that in case I can't get up, then hope nobody saw that cos I must have looked like a right dilly sat on the floor in the middle of the school.
The girl who works on the yard came running through the fields to check I was okay (she was in the middle of bringing horses in). She stay at the arena whilst I caught him and got back on and did a few more circuits of the school making him go past the place he spooked as much for my benefit as his.

So thats the first fall in years and first one of this horse out of the way. Funny I am more proud of the fact I didn't wet myself and there wasn't a big dint in the arena than that I got back on

No damage other than little finger is a bit sore, had my sport bra on so no black eyes

Not sure why he did it, think it may be a lack of work, he has just had his saddle checked and reflocked and his teeth done so should be no issues there.
OH asked if it had put me off him, as I am a very nervous rider, said I'd let him know later once I'd ridden. Not sure how I feel about getting back on, suppose it will depend on how he is. Hopefully it was just a one off, he did do a small rear with me about ten months ago when I first got him but I just sent him forward and he carried on okay, just wasn't in the postion to do this yesterday.
Sorry this is so long.

Thanks for that, no I am normally incredible nervous, lost my nerve quite badly, this horse has played a big part in getting my confidence back, I just love riding him so am hoping tonight he will be his normal chilled self and I will be able to enjoy my ride.
Am thinking about putting a neck strap on then if he does do it again can grab that and not his mouth.

Stick a neck strap on then if you get nervy you can grab it and not grab his mouth.

Must be something in the air my little lad nearly had me off on Saturday displaying his mega spook which is very rarley seen at home.

Nervious nelly me got off and lunged him through it then got back on at walk only and rode past the scarey corner hanging onto neck strap but refuisng point blank to grab at the reins. What do you know, no spook!

Now wheres the rescue remedy?

Poor you

Agree with the neck strap unless you're daft like me and forget to use it

I think it's good to fall off every so often - it reminds us that it isn't as bad as we think it's going to be

Polar Bear, well done for getting back on, think us nervous nellies have more bottle than we think, must be the adrenalin.

Agree it quite good to get it out of the way, thing is all it reminded me is that I'm getting older and don't bounce like I did.

When I fell of after taking up riding again after many years, I stood up and shouted YES because it didnt hurt and I had been worried that now that I was much older it would hurt. I use a breastplate instead of a neck strap but I never remember to grab hold of it

me and another lady at my old yard it first thing we used to ask if we came off.

Anyway quick update have ridden tonight and apart from a couple of grabs at the neck strap when going past spooky corner it was fine. Was a bit of a passenger to start with and he was taking the micky, not going forward in trot, cantering instead so I gave myself a good talking to, sat down and really rode him, legs are going to kill tomorrow, and he went brilliantly. So think I need to stop just sitting there and acutally ride. Next step get a lesson booked.

Well done for getting back on and not being bothered and well done for not wetting yourself

Agree with what's been said before, it's sort of good to get it out of the way and realise that it's not that bad afterall!

Thank you both, this is what I like about this forum, people are always supportive and encouraging. I know if I had come and said I hadn't managed to ride as too nervous there would have been some positive post to help me overcome the nerves.
