So guess what..........







He's still not mine!! Couldn't get him to the instructor again today due to icy roads it just was not worth risking it. But I had a lesson on one of her horses, so this is Tuffy 15.3 ex racer now competing at BE90 he is lovely but was trying it on today. I was riding a bit krap to say the least and could not get canter on the right rein because I kept collapsing to the left. We got there in the end though.

Also did a good exercise where I walked him on a 20m circle and I had to do shoulder in, then quarter in, then shoulder out then quarter out which got me thinking.

And after my lesson I had a lovely ride on Andy, he was really trying his hardest today and did a fairly good turn on the forehand, I would like to see him cross a bit more behind but not complaining. Also having a problem with the strike off on the right which was also probably due to me collapsing so any good tips to fix this would be much appreaciated :)

Once he started relaxing he went into a nice simple outline, hes definatly got it in him and he is going to be fantastic on the flat soon :D

He is a lovely boy, just uploading new video now without audio so hopefully will work :)

Ahh I wrote these on last thread can't really remember them all:

1. Get him hunting fit and go hunting towards the end of the season
2. Get him eventing (he will be amazing xc)
3. Get atleast 60% in a stressage test
4. Register him BS and compete up to Disco
5. Try and get on the Pony Club Gatcombe and Hickstead teams

So we have a busy year planned hopefully it all goes well :)

It wasn't too cold about 3 so warmer then its been :) Urmm a dresage saddle have no idea what make though I can find out though if you want?

Don't go out of your way to find out, it just looked a lovely saddle and I'm on a look out for one for a similar shaped horse, that's all:) Mind you, not quite sure I would enjoy a straight DR saddle, lol.
It's -6 C here, brrr.

Its not the comfiest dressage saddle either :p I'm so glad the coldness has left us for the weekend but tomorrow its meant to be -4 :( Glad we just bought him some new rugs :D

I am no expert but Andy looks superb, and you look really well on him too.
I know it's early days, and I assume this must be a massive decision for you but what are your current thoughts on him?

Oh gosh finally I had to re-upload it twice blinking thing :p

He's getting there he can still go quite hollow but naturally he carries his head very high his jumping is amazing though he just flies and he loves it :)

I really do like him he hasn't done much wrong and today a mare was tarting around in the neighbouring field and he did nothing bless him. I think I'm still used to Koko who was very riggy :p

I would have him now tbh but have to wait to have a lesson on him with my instructor and because of weather we've been un-able which is a bit of pain. So yes we will most likely be getting him unless he suddenly goes crazy :)
 
Considering you've only had him a short while, I think you look fantastic together

I wouldn't be bothered about his head carriage for now personally, the important thing is that he's off your leg and moving forwards and looks very happy to be working for you!

So yeah, what have you decided about keeping him? (I hope you've decided yes!!)

You'll have to wait till wednesday! I'm not allowed to make up mind until my instructor sees him :p

Thank you I feel I get on with him well and he's so good round the stable aswell which is so refreshing as I normally have to teach them :) He goes off the leg well, sometimes to well I need to teach him that leg doesn't always mean go faster :p
 
You make a lovely picture.Lovely position, nice and light in trot and sympathetic hands, nice rhythm and becoming more relaxed already.

There were moments when he wasnt straight and moments where your lower leg was too far forward but it is early days and tbh I think you ride him really nicely. I think if you pushed hard for straightness you would lose the rhythm at the moment but something to bear in mind later.


When you did turn on the forehand (totf) he was sticking and going a bit hollow ( I think- it was difficult to see). I always start turn on the forehand by walking a square with a little turn on the forehand in each corner but with an emphasis on keeping the horses legs stepping through and the front legs still marching allowing some forward movement and no hollowing. It just encourages the horse to step through further with its back leg which is what you are trying to achieve with totf. If you then ask for the horse to move forwards on the straight sides of the square they can push off from the inside hind. Then later you can add shoulder fore/or shoulder in on the straight sides to maintain the activity in the hind leg that you established through the totf. Hope that makes sense! Not meant as a criticism but as a tip!:)

Yeah he either went hollow or totally tries to evade the contact and stuck his nose to his chest :rolleyes: I didn't think of doing it like that I'll try it with him, I think he'll find that way easier to comprehend aswell :)

And crit is fine its what I need :D

I think it will take you a long time to get him actually working on the flat, by the shape of his neck he's pretty set in his way of going! You look quite passive on him at the moment but I'm sure a lesson will give you the confidence to ask a little more from him.
It sounds like the jumping is probably more important to you and if he's good at that then he'll be worth the time you put into his flatwork

All I am going to say, is to do more transitions and exercises :p I got bored watching you trot/canter around arena and the odd circle lol :p
He looks super and nice off the leg to, I would want to make sure you do something like 4 transitions for every lap of the arena and make sure you vary it, eg. circles to serpintines to diagonals etc :)
This will help him work over back more, and hopefully get him stronger behind so can start to come into an outline, whilst maintaing the beautiful forwardness :D
 
Wow - they're both lovely. The first horse you're on is almost identical to my mare to look at - in fact I found it hard to notice a difference!
I'm no expert, but you look a great rider, and the thing I liked most is that your horse is going forwards beautifully but you didn't feel the need to drag his head in as a lot of people do - it looks like you're doing things right and letting him find his way there in his own time. If you're ever Oop North you can come and ride my horses for me!

He is a little sweetie, definatly looking forward to my lesson hopefully my instructor will really get me riding him as I do feel like a bit of a passenger on him. Flatwork is still quite important to me as I like my horses going correctly. I'll keep you updated on him though :)

He is on trial and we were meant to make up our mind today but as we couldn't make it to lesson we have until wednesday but yes he is a nice little project :)

Hannah Fenech shes based in Ashleworth but also teaches at our pony club and is an exmainer so you may know her :)

Pet peeve of mine is dragging the head in I'd rather have their ears in my mouth and them working correctly from behind :p Thank you though I'm never up north but you never know :)
 
Andy's lovely! I'm in no way accomplished enough to crit anything but you look really at home on him, and you seem to be 'gelling' together already which is lovely!
I do hope you keep him :p

Thank you, and can I say I love your sig :) I do feel like I'm gelling with him but he may just be one of those ponies everyone gels with we'll soon see :D
