Sorry I know there have been quite a few myler threads recently.

My haflinger is going to be 5 this year and since he was broken at 3.5 he has always worn a neue schule lozenge bit with full cheeks. I don'tfeel that he's ever really accepted this bit because he still opens his mouth and tilts his head on the side when you put his bridle on and he's started head tilting when I take up a contact out hacking. He's had his teeth done every 6 months, the last time being 3 weeks ago when I specifically asked the vet to check for anything that could be causing him discomfort but he said his mouth was perfect and he doesn't have any wolf teeth. I always put his bit under the hot tap before I tack up so it's not icy cold because I know he doesn't like that.

I had a really good look inside his mouth when he had his bridle on yesterday and I'm wondering whether he would prefer something with more tongue room as he has a pretty small mouth with a low palate. I'm thinking about trying either the 02 comfort snaffle or the 04 low port snaffle but neither of these are made with full cheeks without hooks which is a bit of a pain. The other problem is the price! I'm not sure if I can justify spending £50 on a bit on a student budget

and it's £10 plus p&p to hire them.

Does anyone have any other bit suggestions or should I try a myler?

the 02 is made with full cheeks without hooks, i have two of them. they're very hard to find, but it's possible. Norris and Sons saddlers in Beaulieu, Hants got me mine, and have just got me another myler mullen mouth (32 mouthpiece) full cheek no hooks.

Thankyou for that info that's really interesting because the myler site says they're not making them anymore. I shall make enquiries...

i only bought mine a couple of months ago, it's a case of ringing round to track the last few down, i think!
PM me if you get desperate and you can borrow one of mine maybe, depends what size you need, i only have 5" and 5 1/2".
best of luck!

Head tilting can also be a sign of problem with the diagonal hind . (ie tilt to left = probblem with right hind).

Try a myler I've just change mine from a NS to a myler and he loves it.
