She's a gelderlander x hackney who will hopefully become my next riding horse.

Names we're currently playing with are:
Skylla
Wispa
Bellatrix

and I like Snoopy but feel its a bit boy'ish...

Please help the great and wise HHO'ers as otherwise 'Filly' might stick :D

It was me... but only one person answered...:D:D:D;)

Anywho:

I take it you are looking for a stable name? Or do you need a registered name. If so, who are her sire and dam? For stable names I looked at some Dutch names but they are rather 'hard' sounding so dismissed some, except:

Meisje - girl - pronounced Mice -yeah
Merrieveulen - filly - pronounced Merry - Voil - En, Merrie for short
Tanneke - after the Girl with a Pearl Earring by the Dutch painter, Vemeer
Lea - a river in Hackney
Columbine - the purple aquilegia grows quite well in the Dutch flatlands
Gnishilda - it means 'grey battle maiden' - so perhaps not for the superstitious

Thanks everyone some good suggestions!

Skylla is suppose to be one of the eight immortal horses that pulled Poseidon's chariot, so a link back to her breeding rather than being a monster :D.

Jenni_ that is the reason we've hesitated about Bellatrix, might be tempting fate :D.

Still like Snoopy, but keep them coming everyone!

Don't know her parents names unfortunately but might try and find them out, but yes will need a registered name as well for her!

haha the last might be appropriate :D, but I'm not sure I could reliably pronounce some of those Dutch names :D

We had a Gaelic name for our connie which no-one could pronounce and he was frequently called "the next pony" ridden by....We chose simpler names after that! I love Skylla.

Wow thanks everyone some lovely suggestions! I quite like Storm, Freya and Luna :).

Though we do keep coming back to Skylla, and I could have a show name based around 'The Sky's the Limit'.....

Argg how d people do this, and omg how do people pick children's names if this is so difficult!

I really like 'The Sky's The Limit'! I'm lucky, I bought my mare two years ago, and as she's a fully registered pure bred New Forest, she already had a registered/ show name, and a stable name too. Thankfully they both suit her though :) We have an unregistered Welsh, and her show name is really strange (we didn't choose it), 'Townhead Country Lady' which is a very strange name to me, but as she's now 23 and semi-retired, we don't see much point in changing it as she obviously doesn't compete anymore.

Gook luck, I'm keeping my eye on this thread! :)
