So Ebony had her operation to remove the two screws from her leg that had shifted almost three weeks ago now. The vet came out last week to change the bandage and remove the stiches on the wound (went in in exactly the same place again) and found that the wound had opened up on the bottom creating a cleft. However the skin looked healty and so we just carried on as normal. However the surgeon who has done the past two ops came out yesterday (regular lady was ill) and he found that in the granulation tissue where the wound had opened up, there was a hole, only tiny but when he probed it, he found it went all the way down to the metal plate in her leg.
So following his advice we're going to wait another week and see if the antibiotics kill off the infection and hole closes itself, at the minute it is draining so obviously can't close. If this hasn't happened by next wednesday, the plate needs to come out too. Which means the third operation in 5 months and the second in one month!
poor pony but there really is no other option. The surgeon was visibly dissapointed as he'd said that when he opened up the leg three weeks ago he'd considered taking out the plate but decided to leave it in and give her more support. Sadly this obviously hasn't gone to plan, but with Ebony it never does
Bit of a pointless post but thought I'd update all of you
