So many threads on clippers and yet I can't find my answer! Most people seem to want cordless while I really would prefer mains. I've seen the following at a good price

Showmaster 120W
Liveryman Arena
Lister Star
Heiniger Xperience

I have 5 horses to keep fully clipped all winter ranging from fairly fluffy ISH to thin coated TB. I'm leaning towards the Heiniger but while I hope I could eventually figure out their apparently awkward tensioning system I'm concerned to read on here that while they don't go wrong often if they do they're expensive to fix. I worry the Lister Star are not powerful enough for what I need, I really don't want clippers that overheat. I've no experience of the Showmaster but at £100 less than the others they seem tempting? My last clippers were Liveryman they lasted for ages and always worked well, was a very sad day when they were returned from servicing in pieces in a plastic bag! :-(

Any views appreciated on any of these or any suggestions for something else? I only mention these because they're on offer! Would I be better with the Lister Legend? If I have to I'd rather spend a bit more to get it right than have to change or hate the ones I have, clipping is enough of a chore as it is! Although SO satisfying when it's done :-D

Thanks for any help :-)

Lister Star, I love mine!! So light to use (and clipping takes me ages!) and I never seem to have any lines left with them.

I love Lister and even have one old pair still working fine from 1987. I don't have the Lister Star as I too was slightly concerned that they wouldn't cope with keeping up with our 8 beasties. (A friend has them and likes them but only clips 1-2 horses and usually on different days) I bought the Legends a couple of years ago and even they struggle a little doing 5-6 in a day, so I also invested in the Lasers. They are heavier and a little noisier but so much quicker and can clip all day long with no problem. I tend to use them on the bodies and the Legends, which are a bit lighter and more manoeuvrable on the heads, legs and fiddly bits.

Hi,

I got a set of Heiniger Xplorers last month with a spare battery (nothing worse than running out half way through). They're the first set I've owed and I found the tensioning easy, just turn till you feel resistance. According to my mum who's been clipping for over 30 year they're light weight, quiet and easy to use, she was loving life. Gave the boy a blanket clip with coarse blades and they were fab, didn't need the second battery. Going to do a short full clip this weekend and see how I get on and he's even woollier now.

i have two pairs of heiniger, corded and cordless, so my vote would be for heiniger, very good build quality and both pairs clip nicely.

I have just bought a pair of Lister Stars - awaiting their arrival! :) :) If you decide on Stars and where you are getting them from is not less than 219 pounds then PM me. ;)

I have a few pairs of Lister Laser's at work and while heavy and noisey they do clip 8-9 horses consecutively without a problem. The poor things literally only get time out for a blade change between horses so I start with cold blades again lol!

There were a set of these for sale on a Scottish FB for sale page for £150 yesterday, can't remember which one though!

Thank you all, I think I'll go for the Heiniger's or find some Lister Legends or Lasers then. I think the Lasers may be more than I need, I don't often do all of them in the same day so perhaps could manage with the Legends and if they're lighter/quitter then maybe that's the way to go. Still leaning towards the Heiniger's at the moment.

Thanks again, really appreciate the help, it's such a minefield! :-)

Re. My post the other day. Did a full short clip today, batteries lasted all the way through although I did have to change them over when first one ran out. I think this is partly because I'm slow as it's my first time so waste a lot of power. Really excellent clippers and font get hot, light weight and easy to use.

Heiniger Xperience are superb, we have sold loads. Currently £285 with two sets of blades. Machine seems to be superb, one of the best I have come across in twenty years.
