Went to ride Pally on thursday and thought it was odd he didnt come across the field to me, trekked across and his left hind fetlock was swollen and hot and he appeared to take steps and put his toe down first, almost as if tip toe-ing. Got him across the field and he was slightly lame but not hugely.
Due to his past tendon problem and because he is not my horse but I simply am responsible for him I thought it best to call the vet straight away.
Vet came within half an hour, did an initial feel and requested he was stabled overnight and he'd return the next day to do scans and xrays.
Next morning vet came back out, P underwent scans and x rays... neither of which showed up anything aside from inflamation and some fluid between the tendons.
We are none the wiser as to what is wrong, the swelling has not gone down any and there is still heat. He's had ani inflammatories and is now on 2 bute a day.
I am yet to have a proper conversation with the vet, but it is likely Pally actually has arthritis in his fetlock (this would probably explain why he was unwanted at his previous home before his current owner took him on). To hear this is pretty darn gutting, it seems all the horses I have/look after are falling apart!
Here's a picture of his fetlock.
Any words of wisdom or advice for what could be up with him greatly received.
