So after what seems like an aaaaage of waiting (and teaching my loan horse to jump in a dressage saddle ), I’m finally in possession of my brand new Albion jump saddle! :D (I had to pour myself a VERY stiff G+T after writing the cheque for that one...) The damage isn’t over yet, though. My skanky thorowgood girth does not fit! (despite being used successfully on an almost identical saddle that my saddle fitter kindly lent me ). So I must buy a new girth for it, and call me daft, but the saddle’s so nice I’m really reluctant to use a cheapy girth with it :o

So, recommendations for nice long girths? The Frank Baines one looks nice, as does the Amerigo – anyone used either of these?

Although it isn't as smart looking as the leather girths, I love the good old wintec chaffless! I would totally love to get a nice leather girth, but just can't find one that wouldn't give pressure points.

Thanks glosgirl :)

Also worth mentioning that B can get a bit scurfy round the girth area, even though I wash all sweat marks out, so I'd like to get a girth that can have a dead sheep liner, & don't like the ones that go all the way round.

If she gets scurfy then I would be more inclined to use a girth that could be bunged in the wash for everyday, then for smart perhaps use a girth with a liner? I'm pretty sure frank baines do one that you can velcro the liner into - though if it were me I would want something that would wash well otherwise if you get a build up of skin and sweat it would be really discusting and just harbor bugs!

Hmm, yeah, the Frank Baines with the detachable sheep might be a go-er. I only jump him once a week, and hack out once a week - the rest of the time he's in his dressage saddle, so washing it regularly wouldn't be a prob. Thanks :)

EDIT: those zigzag ones look like good value too! Thanks angela... might try one of those as well :)

Where are you...? I have one that is sitting here as I just bought a close contact jump saddle. You're welcome to try it. It's 52 inches. I have never had a rub from it, except the time someone else tacked my horse up for me and put it on the wrong way round.

That's nice of you :) I'm in south wales/bristol area, so a bit of a trek from Oxfordshire, unfortunately. Thank's anyway, though!

Amerigo girths (like everything they do!) are lovely. So are prestige girths. I have two ''good'' girths one is a Prestige (with stud guard) the other is a amergio (no stud guard), both are short girths as I have a monoflap and dressage saddle. They are both lovely and both my chunky monkey and my precious ''princess'' youngster (who has the thinest skin imaginable, cuts herself, is very allergic etc....) are very happy in them.

HOWEVER for day to day use, and general ease of washing, never cause any pressure points, I use a wintec girth. They are great for general riding and pretty cheap too :-)

I have also heard good things about WOW girths.

Hope this helps!
