My daughter has received her invitation ,it was one of the prizes she got at the intro champ .
It is an hour and a half XC lesson at Crown Farm . Anyone know the course. It is on Feb 10th so hope the ground is good.
Really looking forward to it,he looks so scruffy at the moment and is back into light work.
What is Yogi like?

Yogi is fantastic- doesnt say an awful lot but I've found everything he does says is extremely relevant, unlike some trainers!
He has some really ood philosophies- controlled agression etc and I jumped xc fences I'd never normally consider in cold blood

ahh bless, I hope she has a great time and doesn't do toooooo much (in her condition!!)

I have had lessons off yogi since i was 12... absolutely amazing guy

really likes it if you try and listen...

Enjoy and let us know how you get on! He has a really good sense of humour though and is always willing to help you!

Rosie had a lesson with him a couple of years ago - his only comment to her Dad was "I like what I see". As Boss says, a man of few words! Hope your daughter enjoys it but I'm sure she will

I've had show jumping lessons with him in the past - he was absolutely brilliant. Sorted my horse out and instead of being eliminated every show, we were doing double clears and being placed every time out! Very simple solution, but out of half a dozen instructors, he was the only one who worked out the problem and gave me a solution. Make the most of it!

oh dear, going against the grain here... i had a lesson with him and he was absolutely dreadful. gave me a bo****king because my lovely big 5yr old couldn't do simple changes yet, turfed me off and proceeded to "teach" the horse to do them in ten minutes, by yanking him in the chops and kicking him in the guts.
the horse, who i swear to god had never done it before, started grinding his teeth from that moment on...
i then got another huge bo****king from my regular trainer for letting YB do that to my horse!

It is interesting you said that, because while I do genuinely think he's good, there is a certain status quo about certain 'fashionable' trainers. Some people will go only to famous trainers, in order to tell their friends, when in reality, there are plenty of BHS Is who are far better. Really annoys me when people look down their nose at some instructors simply because they aren't well known, so thank you for saying that

put it this way, if someone told me i'd won £1000 worth of vouchers for lessons with him only, i'd give them away on here. no way would i let him near one of my horses again - he was very very unfair on my horse, who wasn't being naughty at all, only green.
also, there was a girl in the group who said she was frequently taught by him who spent the whole time saying "is it 3'? because i can only jump up to 2'11", i can't jump 3'"... she was pretty terrified, even though her horse was very experienced and a good safe jumper, and YB said and did nothing to help her with her hang-up. she got progressively worse through the session.
maybe he's one of those who are better teaching people of a certain standard.

Interesting you should say that, my old trainer had lessons with him on a good horse she owned, I thought Yb had totally eroded their confidence over a period of about 6 months, she then sold the horse who went on to other riders and did fabulously well. The trainer is a good jockey, horse was a good horse but they just seemed to fall apart using his training.

God, I am a VERY lesser mortal and I didn't know who he was when he taught me (certainly wasn't fashionable!) We are talking about 15 years ago - and he gave me very clear instructions what to do with my horse, and it really worked.

Can't be filled with enough praise for the man... dedicated a serious amount of time to helping me - a complete nobody - and I always learn something every time I go...

Helped me incredibly both on the flat and over a fence... He has the rare ability in a trainer (which can be found throughout the ranks of trainers from BHSAI through to FBHS, I'm not saying cost of lesson and big names = good trainer!) to work on both the horse and the rider at the same time, and very much adopts the mentality of not saying or interfering until after you've done the exercise in question, then asks your opinion on it before giving his and suggesting improvement. find it actually helped me to cope in a situation whereas the lady I used to have lessons off helped you every step of the way and I found when she wasn't there I was completely lost.

I can understand he wouldn't work for everyone... but he has seriously improved my riding and taught me alot since i was 12? He spent 90 mins with me just getting me to jump a course of 2'6 as I had a serious confidence problem and he was the only trainer that stayed and worked through it with me... and has taught me ever since and rings every so often for me to go for a lesson... from my experiences with him really nice guy who I have learnt endless amounts from!!!

i cant comment as i have never had a lesson with him but what i will say is that people are so different and different teaching methods work for different people.
i went to a sj trainer who everyone raved about and hated every moment of it! but yet i love some instructors who other people cant stick it is very mucha personal thing.

Not everyone is going to like the same instructor. I like ones who push and challenge you, as I need a kick up the bum most of the time!

Yogi B has always been very good in lessons.

On saying that I wouldn't be keen if someone wanted to jump on my horse to teach them something, as a) you probably couldn't repeat the aids, and b) I am slightly precious about my horse (my dressage instructor wants to lunge mine in side reins, which I loathe, so trying to fit middle ground with a chambon!)

YB is a god but he does get a bit keen with the size of the fences occasionally. and crown farm nice plan they had a very successful event there this year and loads peeeps use it for training. not goin to name drop tho!

Will let you know how I get on as I've got some EHOA training with him on 24 January on my big 5yo! *mutters "I must go with an open mind, I must go with an open mind, I must....*

i've never had a lesson with him personally but have watched him teach a rider on my horse (who was I admit a GB team rider), but i thiught he was excellent. A young horse I bred who won the intro champs is also going to Crown farm with an 'unknown rider' so I will be interested to watch that.

will let you know how i get on am going to a EHOA clinic on 31st for XC training Am excited as will be my first trip out of teh 2008 year and hoping to get off to a good start. As need to improve confidence

Can not comment as I have never had a lesson with him, I know my friend has had them and she really rates him.
BBs has also had a lesson with him and rated him.

However Crown Farm is a lovely course, Ground is quite good over there. As they made it BE they tend to look after the ground not like you average HT or something.

Sounds like she will have an excellent time. x
