Brackenhurst have started their winter lecture series and this was the first one last night. I went along with a few friends and it was brilliant, started at 7.30pm and couldn't believe he'd been talking for 2 hours, completely hooked!!

He really is a fantastic horseman, interestly he bases a lot of his methods on the intelligent horsemanship side, herd behaviour, where horses come from etc etc. How we need to be the "lead stallion" with our horses and don't act like the "dominant mare" (staring at them in the face and eyes and marching up to them) when we want to load them, catch them etc! We all need to learn to keep our heart rates completely level when we are around them, even when they have completely wound us up and need telling off, punish them with a low heart rate!

He took you through from the horse being born, to competing at a high level, giving lots of tips along the way!

My favourite was when he talked about the "rule of opposition" i guess reverse phsycology in horses and another personal favourite of how keeping your leg on to push a horse into corners (say on his stiff side) where he s falling out, can often just cause him to fall out more (he demonstrated with trying to push someone away, what do you do - lean into them to stop yourself falling over!) so he suggested more pressure then release in more of a tapping your heal way (being annoying to them!!!) Interestingly i tried this on my horses weak side today....BINGO, it worked!

There was absolutely loads more, but would highly recommend if you see him anyway local to you to go and listen!! You are bound to pick up at least one really good tip to take away

He also answered a good 20 mins of audience questions at the end, where people took full advantage of asking advice on their own horses...including me!! Hiighly recommended!

Just thought i'd share..............!

oooh wow sounds good! I really want to see Yogi in action - there was a coursewalk through British Eventing Gold Supporter Membership but it was at Burghley and couldn't make it! Where did you find out about this clinic??
