We are hopefully looking to go to York horse sales in a couple of weeks to buy a cheap project but don't have any transport, are there any hire places near by? We don't really want to hire one for the day if we don't see one we think is suitable.
Thanks!

Hi there wil be plenty of of people about on the day that offer lifts etc.

There are usually a coulple of transporters knocking about in the car park too....

You might be surprised at the prices - Have you beed recently ? Last time that I went there were some hefty reserves on most of the lots

Yeah I agree with above, if you ask about usually there are people willing to drop them off for you, sometimes they only want a small fee like £10 or if your lucky, for nothing!

The auctioneer will usually announce anyone looking for a lift or offering one if asked to on the day.

Last time I was there, maybe 3 months ago I was really shocked at the state of the majority of the animals. York is known as one of the "better" sales but some of the animals there should never have been allowed through the ring

Be very wary!! Our mare was at York but didn't hit reserve, we took no. and bought her after viewing at the owners yard after sales... she ended up having arthritic changes in her foot, she was only 5, she is now permanently lame, but with us for life as a broodmare... an expensive mistaek on our part!! Through coming on here I found out she was sold by a HHOer as a broodmare way before we bought her as she had soundness issues after an accident, the HHOer was surprised that she had been sold on..

I wouldn't agree that York had a good reputation, my OH has lived up here all his life and doesn't rate it... for horse sales!! There is a lot of rubbish there and some seriously dodgy people too.
That isn't to say they are all rubbish but just be very careful!! I wouldn't sell anything there if I wanted good money for it!! You might get a bargain but ask a lot of questions outside the ring before you bid.. and go over the horse with you hands before it goes in the ring too!!
