You can have more than one horse of a lifetime - 5 year Kiraversary

lovely post, particularly liked your music video, she is a credit to you and all your hard work, goes to prove you dont have to ride a warmblood to succeed. look forward to reading your next report....

Really enjoyed reading that. You have both come so far and done so wonderfully well! You were clearly destined to meet. Very inspiring stuff.

An absolutely beautiful Kiraversary update. There appears to be something in my eye.

You've done so well with her. Turned her around and achieved so much. Here's to the next 5 years of adventures

What a lovely, lovely write up. She looks so elegant on her own but when she’s up with those brown flashy all look the same types, she does look so sweet!

Was there a moment when you thought she’d be something special or has it been more gradual than that?

Just love following your progress, you’re such an inspiration.

well I reckon it probably does help if you have a horse that is made for the job. But I haven't got one :p We still have loads of fun. I think it's important to define your own version of success - for me, having a happy horse that enjoys her work and allows me to get experience of training at the higher levels (& collect a few frillies along the way) is a pretty good definition. Others would want to ride at the nationals etc - that is not going to be our story. But I'm Ok with that :)

haha! Kira & elegant are not 2 words that go together. With feet that enormous, elegant she ain't :p But she is devastatingly cute IMO!

Um, I don't know, way back in the beginning I knew she had the physical ability to do things like a proper sitting piaffe because she would do it when she got herself in a pickle, and when she rears napping she has never gone "up" up, she always sat down and lifted the front legs if that makes sense (so the same mechanics as for a piri)..
But I didn't ever think I'd get her brain on side like this, we just kept plugging away because she needed a job and was too difficult to sell. She is still difficult, it's just I know how to work with her now which keeps her happy, and so does my trainer which is wonderful. if she needs a *moment* then we have a bit of a giggle about it and then carry on.

One of my all time favourite HHO ponies and an absolute credit to your hard work and dedication.

You give so much inspiration to others to get out there and give it a go, even with less conventional competition breeds.

I genuinely think you're amazing and you and Kira have one of those partnerships we all aspire to.

Oh MP what a lovely post! Another soppy git who got a bit teary reading ;) Happy 5 year Kiraversary and many more to come x

What an amazing journey. I was tearing up reading! She was so lucky to end up with you. Do you ever speak to her old owners?
I consider myself quite lucky these days, but at the start it was definitely HER that was lucky! not many people would have put up with her antics.
Yes, I am facebook friends with them, they are pleased it has all worked out well. the lady who had the fall came to an early show to watch us, and K did not disappoint with some general rowdiness in the warm up arena - didn't want to keep 4 feet on the floor at any one moment  what can you say?! as she's turned out to be quite brilliant I feel a bit awkward that I got a free horse, but considering what she cost me in blood, sweat and tears it probably evens out ;)

There's no way you should feel awkward about that - she is what she is because of you. I think with enough work, most horses could be awesome!

Love this, such an amazing job you’ve done.

I have found it really hard to accept loving another horse the same way as a lost one but reading this makes me feel better about it!

Slightly leaky eyes here too reading that - although also trying not to giggle when I opened the Youtube video and saw you lined up at the Masterclass in size order. Pink pony at one end, mahoosive horse at the other (its probably normal sized, but looks like a giant with Kira near it!). I'll watch that later when I'm not doing spreadsheets.

Love welshies and their quirky brains anyway, but seeing how far you've come with your feral pony is fantastic. She's one of my favourites to follow on here and really looking forward to watching the two of you continue to your 10 year write up :)

Very well done! What an amazing story and partnership! I was at trailblazers this weekend and I thought you looked awesome in the master class. I also think Adam Kemp talked so much sense and it was really enjoyable to watch 'normal' horses doing amazing things!

...Here she is arena walking at Bishop Burton

Super write up MP, Kira is super lucky to have you! I'm so excited for your first GP .
Plus I'm feeling smug that I managed to photo-bomb the background here :p, though with the other discussion do you think I got lost from the showjumping rings :D.

5 years I remember when you first got her you have done an absolutely amazing job you should be very proud of yourself, she is one of my favourite horses on here I love reading about all your shows and training. Well done to the both of you:D

Ahhh thank you! Yes Adam is totally straight talking, no jargon and easy to understand IMO, he always sees things from the horse's POV too which helps when you have a tricky one.

haha! yes, get thee to the jumping rings! will you be hairnetting for Skylla's jumping career...?

Absolutely loving this thread <3 As a welshie own myself, I know how tricky they can be, but you get back what you put in and just LOOK at you both - you're doing amazingly well.

Thank you for flying the flag for Welshies in BD boards! This was one of the dreams for mine, but sadly his lameness issues dictate otherwise :( Your story with Kira is inspirational :)
