Since having my horse at home I can't help myself but imagine getting another one. I already have the stable the fields.. I currently have two.

Will this pass or is this a sign that I really should get another one because I can't help wanting it more and more ?

I hope this will stop at some point although I could easily see myself owning 5 or 6 !! Or should I get someone in for livery so I can see my stable being put to good use and still have the pleasure of having another one to look at ?

It is v. hard work and I pretty much have no life because I have to be there at feeding times etc. to let in/out etc.. I'm not sure it's really sensible of me to get another one, I just WANT one...

I have four, it's not the work or time that's the problem, it's the worry.

Four horses makes an injury or problem far more likely than when you only have one. At one point last year I only had one sound horse and that was the retired one. :(

No...I had one....then got two....Sold the second...put the first out on loan.....aimed to be horseless for a while as got over 40 odd at work.....

Well, less than 24 hours later, ended up with the TB lad. :o
Then, got baby coblet 2 years after....
Then got first pony back home off loan a year after him...
Then got another 4th one as he was too good to miss....
All this ignoring the 'technical' 5th one...but he isn't 'mine'...just adopted really...[for the last 4 years anyway :o]

And first pony is being put in foal to baby coblet next year....so will have another technical 6th come 18 months.....

:p

Erm, JUST after I was saying that three horses was really too much and we'd be better off with two, I only went and bought a fourth! Couldn't be more delighted. I must be mad.....

I have 3; my sister's Connie and my first pony are out with lovely loaners, and hopefully Wings will be sold to a competition home in the near future as both me and my sister are at uni and have neither the time nor money for horses at the minute! :(

I've got 3 and trying to downsize, would ideally just like 1 but don't think I could part with the.second. the 3rd is for sale at present with some viewings booked in so hopefully I will be down to 2 in the not so distant future!

Careful! That's what I said................

I have two, and one I've sort of adopted. My own two are both retired and due to a number of reasons I can't ride the adopted lad either.

I think though I'd go to having one if the circumstances ended up like that.

I have four. One ex. racer tb retired with KS. One irish who is on loan ( couldn't get on with him, loanee loves him!). Retired cushings pony and rescue ex racer/polo pony/rubbish eventer, but I love her and she does what I want.

I've got a completely dysfunctional herd of 4. One is too young to be backed, one is too small for me to ride and still hasn't been backed at the age of 5. One of the olds is too footy, and the other old is being treated for liver problems. Sigh!!

This is the biggest problem having your own land.
If I had to livery mine I would have 1, only 1, absolutely not 2, just ....1
The upside is I have my own land, the downside is I hate empty stables. So currently at 5 and a very empty extra stable (well it has a rocking horse in) I am hoping to let it out before I have an urge to fill it !
Out of the five - 2 are the kiddies Sec A's, Large cob No.is 1 is retired. Large cob No.2 is semi-retired and the Sec D youngster is unbroken. Hopefully I can get him under saddle soon as Im going a bit crazy not being able to ride much.

I have 5 and 1 empty box. Did get up to 11 at one point but that was far too many. I like what I have in now because they're all doing something except one which I'd like to sell.

I totally understand !! I have this urge to use the room.. I also have 12 acres for 2 horses atm a 3rd wouldn't be a problem..

I really think I should get someone in TBH.. have no arena though which puts everyone off :(

I could do a retirement livery for someone with a nice oldie looking for a loving home!

OH has always maintained that most of us women work on the basis that the correct number of horses to own/keep is n+1, where n=the number currently owned/kept. :-)

I have 5, three of which are less than 12.2 (plus one out on permanent loan to local RC)...and am avidly looking for the next one -14hh- for daughter. Once that's sorted I can get myself a new ridden horse. And so it starts again.....

I always had 2 when i was at a livery yard, a mum and daughter. Then we bought a house with a bit of land and built some stables. Stuck with the same 2 for years then lost the mum 4 years ago so i went and bought a young ISH who was then a 17 month old colt, he is now 5 years old. 2 years ago i went and bought my daughter a 13.2hh section B pony so it brought my numbers up to 3. Last year after not really getting on with the ISH i but him up for sale and went and bought a lovely 2.5 year old gypsy cob mare so brought my numbers upto 4 but i did have 1 for sale. Well he didn't sell and i now have a lovely young lass that rides him and adores him so i still have 4 horses. Obviously i couldn't afford them all if i had to keep them on a livery yard but i have them at home so i manage to scrape by and keep them all. I would still love to have a shetland though but i wont tell the OH that, i think he might have something to say about that .

I only have the one :o if I had my own land, no doubt I'd have a herd of off the track tbs that I've fallen in love with and felt sorry for  might pop a cob in there too :p

:)

I have 10 empty stables :D

I also have 10 horses (which came as a bit of a shock when I did a headcount recently as I thought that I had downsized the herd) There are 20 horses here in all - I think :(

I have solved the empty stable problem by filling them with 60 baby goats, but they'll be empty again tomorrow.

I technically have 5 although one is being paid up and one we have on loan but is else where just now. 3 at home and the loan one coming back in a few weeks. He may go back to his owner tho, depends how he behaves.

I'd get a livery then you have company too :)

Only one biggie now but a herd of 5 shets too. They keep me busy enough! Those of you with 2 or more do you have time to work them everyday? I struggle with one riding wise.

I can easily see myself acquiring more and more as I (hopefully) earn more money. Will have to stick with just the one in my studentdom really although always browsing for a companion! I am quite happy to have pets, elderly or youngsters so I'll have a mish mash one day :-)

Well we started with a Welsh D...got a nutty TB for sister which was then sold and replaced with a nutty ID x TB. Few years on we got a pony to replace the welsh D while she was sold due to not getting on with her but he went back to dealer after finding things out about him...then we got one for mum and she went on loan then came back and was sold...got a youngster, didn't like it so sold to livery and got another Welsh D.

So still got the original welsh D 7 years on and had the 2nd welshie since May :p

My sister has 2, one is the now retired ID cross and the other a warmblood just gone out on loan :D

Oh I forgot we have an 11.2 welsh A on loan but due to lameness issues he is going back and instead mum is now looking for her very own western cow pony :D

Personally: 2
Overall: 5

We have 3 :) Dudley my old boy Dales x 22yrs and Tuffs (Hopscotch Toffee Pop) 23yrs connie daughters pony and Meg welsh D 14yrs son's pony
All fit and well and costing an arm and a leg to keep :D
