...honestly I didn't believe people like this really existed. I answered a local ad, '4 acres to rent, rent neg (free) as partly fenced and needs maintence'. So I went to have a look. Lovely young family in a newly converted barn in an idyllic location, y'know, the sort you'd give your eye teeth for. the land was directly out of the back of their house, just been topped, hedges half the way round, great big walnut tree in the middle giving loads of shade and home to a peregrine falcon family. Exit at the top of the field onto miles of wonderful bridleways. But but but, OMG, the questions....

'So how often do you visit your horses?'
'How long does each visit take?'
'What time would you get here and leave?'
'Are your horses friendly, because our little girl would want to go in and pat them'
'Are your horses noisy?'

And my questions..
'Is there anywhere I can store my stuff?'
No
'Or my hay in winter?'
No, why do you need hay? There's lots of grass..'
'Why are you renting it out?'
Because we want to look at horses, they are so pretty.

AAAARRRRGH!! Oh please, why have these numpties got this potentially gorgeous wonderful place, and not me??? It could be wonderful. If I don't find my own little place soon I swear I'm going to spontaneously combust!!!!!!
 
they would'nt know how to look after it, it would be fat because it lives in field doing absolutley nothing because it looks pretty, why don't they get some nice sheep? lol
 
Don't you just love it when city people move to the country.

A couple of years ago, a family who had just moved into the area tried to take legal action against a church on the Mendips to try and stop them ringing the bells, as they claimed it was noise pollution and woke them up on a Sunday!
 
They have looked into getting some sheep or llamas but decided against as they don't know eough about them, and yes, scarily, they said if we don't take the land they are going to get 'some little ponies' to put on there.

There really isn't a lot of grazing there anyway, there seemed to be the recently topped remains of a rape crop and not much else. I asked if they had a problem with ragwort, and they thought it was a type of insect.

Nooooooooo!! THESE are the type of people that "commonsence1" poster should have been ranting about yesterday. Clueless non-horse people who get horses "as they look pretty". How much do you want to bet that these ponies end up being laminitic due to gorging themselves on grass and then end up starving in the winter.

Sigh...

I wouldn't rent from these people as you just KNOW that they are going to complain about the muck and a growing muck heap.

But your two nags would love a little girl to pat them, stand behind their back legs whilst she scratches their bottoms, feed them sugar lumps, bread and potato peelings. Oh, and don't worry about the hay, they'll save their grass clippings for you!

Ravenwood....TTTHHHHRRRRPPPP big rasberry to you...you know me, and my land rover and my hounds from hell so well!! LOL! Seriously. it's true, they are a pony disaster waiting to happen. Oh they did question 'where does all the poo go', I said I'd poo pick every day and create a muck heap away from their half a million pound achitect designed high tech low carbon footprint house, and the wife said'well as long as we wouldn't be able to actually see it'. AAAAAAARRRRGH!!!!
 
I hate people like that, so bloody stupid, I sometimes have to work for idiots like that and explain that there are no such things as invisible pipes and that it doesn't matter how many times they tell me "I dont understand" you cant fit a 2metre object in a 1metre space, telling me I dont understand wont alter that, ever, it's against the laws of physics for starters, arsholes, I would have told them my horse was a paedophile just to wind them up, pratts would probably have beleived me

hi i come from the mendips as well, we had a couple of townies move in to one of the cottages in the hamlet ...............after a couple of months they wrote a letter to the farmers (the hamlet was 14 houses, 7 were farms all dairy and 1 post box(which we are proud of the post box that is who needs a pub when you have a post box!))

anyway they wrote a letter to ask the farmers to milk later as the 4.30 am milk was wakening them up and could the famers also sweep up as the cow Sh*t was affecting the BMW

needless to say they didn't last long
 
Well being as BMW closed a bridleway to build "more" cars for these type of morons, I would have started milking at 3.30am and shipped more cow [****] in just fo their benefit, how did we mange to breed a society of such morons, we seem to have either estates full of chavs throwing their larger cans and bottles and vandalising the countryside ect or, they get lucky and make some money move into the countryside and want combine harvesters and tractors banning because they cant commute down the narrow country lanes to get to their pile of concrete called an office

I honestly think some of these people think that farmers still wear smocks and floppy hats and ride around on carts pulled by heavy horses.
 
Ha ha - this reminds me of the village I used to live in.
Neighbours moved in next to us - the address being 'Church Lane' - and what do you think our new neighbours were astonished to find - yes, a church!
They complained about the church bells ringing for service, and practice, and also the tractors they could hear, and the smell of muck spreading.
They were Londoners....

When my parent bought a farmhouse a couple of years back the people we bought it from were selling it because it was too close to a farm (it is a farmhouse) and there were animals around..... apparently animals made the wife's skin crawl, all the germs, poo, hair etc.
 
I'm in 'church road' and back on to the bells and believe me even as a country lass at 7am on christmas morning I was ready to go up there in my PJs and say as they had rung at midnight and would again at 10am was it really necessary! (and knowing the low number of likely attendees) bah humbug

Mum used to like the bells (they are a bit further away) before she discovered they made the archers hard to hear every sunday!

Best one is though local dairy farmer was told he was only allowed to wean calves off on mondays and wednesdays as they were too noisy!
 
I feel your pain.

There was a lovely little house with about 7 acres, stables and a lovely 20mx40m floodlit and and rubber menage ... the new owners use the menage as a car park and mow the "lawn".

Another really lovely stud farm was bought by non-horsey people - 22 lovely stables with auto-waterers (now falling down), rubber 20mx60m menage full of weeds, all of the the post and rail fencing with eletric strand on top is falling down, the indoor school (yes indoor school) is falling down and the paving is all cracked. It is now home to 4 scraggly "rescues" who have the worst feet you have ever seen and bellies full of worms who have cribbed on all the fences (hence them all falling down) and the owner proudly showed me the yard telling me that he thought the horses were "pretty".
 
same, a lady lives on this hill near us, got a few ponies and she keeps one of the fields empty, that has the grass kept like a lawn and bought a big set of showjumps to put in it, however she doesnt ride because she thinks its just nice to look at the showjumps and riding the horses 'would be unfair'
bet the ponies think theyve arrived in heaven!! food, grass, lots of treats and a lady who just comes out to give them a hug and some polos regularly. The kids down the road take them for walks sometimes
theyre like a very spoilt and expensive alternative to a dog
