You faveourite equine smell?

Fly spray, garlicy feeds, leather tack and apple flavoured chaff. Hate the smell of wee-soaked straw bedding in winter!

Hot, sweaty horses, haylage, barrier hygiene fly spray, Megatek, spearmint body wash and good old fashioned hoof oil

the farrier when shoeing :) also fly spray, haylage, new leather :) garlicy feeds and beddown excel (love the lemony smell!)

I was actually thinking about this this morning when I was hosing Kali off . . . my favourite horsey smells:

Kali - yes, he smells like a horse, but he still has his own particular smell
A clean, freshly re-laid stable
Good quality hay
My tack locker when I've cleaned all the tack
Fly spray - makes me think of summer
Speedibeet made up with hot water

P

Warm muzzle - that soft bit between his mouth and nostril. I thought Pie was the only one who smells like roast chicken there lol! I could stand there for hours with my cheek against that bit - and his lovely sweet horse breath.
Glycerine saddle soap
Cornucrescine
Fresh hay

Horses necks.

Wet horse

Saddlery shop

Bloom shampoo

Hydrophane fly repellant

Last two are memories of many happy summers spent at the riding school when I was a child.

That lovely soft area just above their nostrils... That's my fave smell.

Definitely not the smell when I'm trying to clean all the wee out from under my boys rubber mats!!

Sweaty horse.

Having said that whenever I return from holiday I can't wait to sniff my boy, not really home 'til then.

As an aside I love the smell of my labrador's paws, guess I am just perverted!

The smell of a nicely worked horse.
Just the general horse smell when I snuggle in their neck.

Wet horse, after a down pour, best smell ever.

Wahl dirtie beastie shampoo, belvoir tack stuff- the honey one that softens leather, every possible place of my horse- her bum, ears, etc. I love it when you walk into the yard and the smell of sweet horses and horse poo hits you.. Just that horsey smell. Love it !
Also like eucalyptus shavings!

Proper feed rooms, the ones where feeds are made up rather than just somewhere people keep feed. Not sure if I'm explaining it very well but when I first started learning the riding school had a brick built feed room with the big metal bins and stone bin for boiled barley and used to feed straights like oats. Can’t describe the smell but it’s a real old school type and not I had smelt until I moved to my current yard where they make all the feeds in this one room and it has a very similar smell, it just doesn’t seem to happen with every feed room for some reason.
That and tack rooms, again the brick built cool rooms, with that saddle soap smell.
Oh and haylage.

when the farrier is doing hooves, love that smell..
sweaty summer horse smell
saddle soap
again with the neck/muzzle smell
her hay breath when she wants a cuddle

not one for doggie feet smell, as my dog has some proper cheesy Doritos feet in the summer :o

This will probably sound odd- but my geldings muzzle!

I've noticed it in many geldings, but not so much with mares (this could well be because my mate isn't the cuddling type) but does anyone know what I mean? I just love that smell!
