The Rodeo came to town today, thankfully the temperature was cooler than it has been all week and it even rained, a little bit. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, didn't see the slightest thing that could be construed as cruelty, and I'd say the only things that got hurt was the pride of a few riders who ended up eating sand, or misjudged their roping and the steers got away.

The video clip is great - I showed it to my son as he thinks his pony was naughty for putting in the occasional buck. I can't beleive the man managed to land on his feet - a bit of a naieve question but are they proffessionals at this or people who have a go?

The horses all look like good sturdy types - how bit are they?
 
I havent watched the video but I noticed that the "ridden" horses are booted whereas the rodeo horse has scarred legs and no boots.

Personally I would like to see a buck strap on the nuts of each and every person in the photo....
 
The ridden horses are the pick up guys own horses, whereas most rodeo horses are owned by stock contractors. The bronc horses are probably worth a pretty penny, and considering they do at the very most 8 seconds of broncing I dont think they have a hard life!
 
Ah....the photos I didn't get, this time. Yes they do look like Dobbins don't they; they're friendly things aren't they!

Have to say MR, I never saw any scarred legs on the rodeo horses; just grease.

I bet that brown one is worth big bucks.

That is some riding - having tried to stay on once for bucks like that, I ended up with 6 months on Voltarol for where my elbow joints and muscles got jolted - next time I'll take the flying lesson early.
 
I personally think its crazy to cause an animal to react in this way. They dont choose to bronc, they are in discomfort and as flight animals, they do what they have to get rid of the pain.

The fact they are so docile in the pens makes it, for me, even worse. It has to be discomfort that makes them buck as they sure arent obvious flighty types.

A hard life? based on the pictures they hardly looked well groomed or living it up in green pastures. This life is avoidable... they arent providing an essential service. And as for 8 seconds of pain being a good living...hmm... you must be very strange..

Tia, Grease or scars (looks more like scars to me).... the fact remains that they arent afforded the same protection as the other horses.

Very very sad.
