Can you believe it? I am staggered at the amount of healing that is going on ... and sooo quickly. (Sorry hope I'm not boring you all, but I simply cannot keep this to myself, I am so excited!)

This is it on this morning of 28th September.

Can you believe this was how it looked on the evening of the 25th September! Not even 3 days ago!

Me neither! I am totally and utterly blown away by this. And there was me doubting my vet

. He told me on Wednesday, that it would be pretty much sealed up by Monday (the next time he is coming out to visit), and he looks like he will be blooming well right!

Yes she's been out 24/7 the whole time. Same as the little foal who slashed open his leg earlier in the year - both making amazing recoveries.

Soo different over here; had I been in England, both of these horses would have been stabled and I am beginning to think that perhaps had I done this with these 2, that they would never have healed up as quickly as they have. Who knows, but I will say there does seem to be a huge amount going for keeping them outside, even when they do have horrific injuries. I'm very much a convert!

Well you know, there is. That was another thing the vet said to me, that some of the bone would grow back. I was incredibly skeptical about this, but he was right and some of the bone has indeed grown back. I would imagine the bone will never fuse totally however. But there seems to be enough to at least help the skin knit properly.

It has been the most amazing 3 weeks for me - I have witnessed, and been party to, something that I never thought I would ever be privvy to in the whole of my life. And not one rollercoaster journey (yet at least); it has been absolutely plain sailing from beginning to (nearly) the end.

I think the owner will be in absolute shock when she comes to see her today.

I have a question... is the horse an X Horse... the equine equivalent of Wolverine perhaps? That's some freaky healing ability! Looks amazing, so glad that it's going well!

No I don't have access to that over here. It is something that I would have liked to have tried though. I used povidone initially and then when the little rascal found ways of extracting the soaked gauze from the hole, I had to switch to Furicin, which is a fairly thick gunky antibiotic ointment.

Lol!! No, sadly my computer skills are legendary!

No well dones for me though; I only did what had to be done; the pat on the back goes to the little mare, and a giant one to having a vet who has witnessed this before a number of times and showed me the way! And to be perfectly honest, for the first couple of weeks I never thought it would work; I'm naturally an optimist but this was one thing I was very pessimistic about at the beginning.

I did a BD walk and trot test this morning and by some fluke managed to win it with 60.43 %

Have been told that as I've now won 2 walk and trot tests at different levels I now have to do Prelim or I would be taking the P!$$ a bit

Crikey Tia, I am gobsamcked at how fast and well that is healing.
No matter how much you may protest, a lot of it is down to how you have treated it, and your vets advice, so, well done

Aren't head wounds amazing? I've seen a couple that I thought would be the end of the horse heal up so you could barely tell.

Fantastic for the mare. I should tell you, I showed the first pics to Shauna and she admitted to being speechless . . . Shauna is NEVER speechless.

Glad to hear it's turning out so well after such an awful shock initially.

Lol! No she isn't is she, - neither am I, but I was too when I first saw what had happened

Oh me too, I am so happy that it has (almost) healed so quickly; I still find it unbelievable that so much difference can occur over such a very short space of time. I really didn't feel too confident about it not becoming infected though, if I am truthful, and even though we look like we are almost at the end of this, I still have my fingers tightly crossed that nothing will go wrong.

Thanks everyone for your comments

. I wonder if next week at this time, we won't be able to see the hole any longer? Vet is coming out to check on it again tomorrow and I'm sure he will be thrilled with it
