you know it's cold when....

The poo is frozen in your horse's stable, there is snow on the ground, your horse doesn't want to go out and all your water containers are frozen. Yep, all of this happened this morning!

when you cant get in to your field because your padlock is frozen and you cant oil it because the can of oil in the tack room is frozen (had to lift dog over and climb over !will attempt oil again tonight - oil is now in car to warm up !!)

Cat making unsual sound, after investigation cat flap in house wall has frozen shut and has thick ice on it, and cats are trapped inside luckily for them, but desperate to get out!

Ponies happily munching hay outside - thank goodness

Can recommend a blowtorch for the padlocks, we keep ours at the stables and its invaluable for unfreezing padlocks - better than oil or breathing on it, which just makes more moisture :)

blow torch great idea thanks, will hijack OH's from garage.

mmmmm slush puppy - leave squash in there next time and it will taste lovely !

We're lucky, ours are in a converted cow barn. It's always loads warmer in than out when all in at night. Even when its way below minus for days the water in the stables doesn't freeze. And for frozen locks, you can get mini de icer that goes on a key ring, its very handy.

Had to get through 3 frozen padlocks, today, despite oiling them the other day in preparation. Don't think I'd have managed it without the oiling!! Water with an inch thick ice layer, solid poos in field and wheelbarrow from when I'd left it on the muckheap. Was hoping to keep them in current field until end of Dec, but this cold snap has made me rethink. Hence 3 padlocks, as I moved them this morning. Soooo, looking forward to having some cover tomorrow (but must remember to go to the right field!!!!).

Hope your botty is ok, Luci. Been there, done that!!

hehehe, i know have visions of your cats headbutting the cat flap for 10 minutes until realising it's not going to open:D:eek:

We have no toilet at our field and have to pee in a spare stable. You certainly know how cold it is when you feel the freezing air on your bum :D

Re: you know it's cold when.... There are certain people on here (mentioning no names) who live on the opposite side of the planet and are moaning about temps of 41C  They have promised to send me 10C of it though ;) :D

Your gloves stuck to the frozen metal gate, the electric fencing stops working as its frozen and funniest of all was bringing in a livery horse who decided to check out the frozen puddle in one of the gate ways and got a shock when his nose and tongue stuck to the puddle!!
