Your horse's eyes start to weep he starts scratching his arse and everyone else's horse is getting their summer coat and mine seems to be getting wollyer 😪

So I may have to clip him in order to keep him comfortable and in order to work him, I'd rather not but I guess there is no other way? Stupid cushings I thought the 1 prascend a day would be helping!

Any recommendations for suitable fly or UV sheets to protect him once clipped ? I was thinking of the shires sweet itch combo? Haven't got a big budget though :-(

Anyway apart from that roll on summer!!!!

I know summers coming when my horse gains green stains instead of brown ones and I leave the field with a brand new white woolly coat!

As for fly sheets I currently have the bridleway sweet itch combo (which I believe is very similar to the Shires one) for my very itchy, constantly-annoyed-by-flies boy
It's okay.... but the chest comes up a bit small for him. Granted I got him a 6'3" and have since discovered that he's more a 6'6".... he'll be getting a new one this year, potentially Mark Todd because I like the neck areas and the UV protection on those :)

Urm, not sure, maybe when it's more than 3 days of having no rugs on! I've managed 2 days so far then had to put the medium rugs back on as it got so blumming cold again :)

When my neurotic warmblood's coat finally grows out her 'go faster stripe of shame'....she decided that clipping was not for her, but it had to be after I'd taken one "stripe"off.. **sigh**

The ground you've been whinging about being too boggy/muddy about for months becomes too hard to do anything on, and when you start comparing DIY fly repellant recipes like a branch of the WI discusses sponge recipes!!!

Instead of the ponies coming galloping up for their food they take one look at me and go back to eating grass.

Your horse reverses up to you and lifts a leg - in a "Flies have bitten my sheath and I want you to scratch it - who cares who's watching!" sort of way

Hee hee :) Very true.

Also when (from August onwards) you can't get a decent fly/sweet itch rug for love or money............ coz everyone has started stocking winter turnouts again :(

Is it just me or do midges seem to have arrived earlier than usual? May just be as we have moved yards this winter and the new place is more prone to them perhaps? Annoying me already!

I knew the warmer weather was here today.... I mucked out in a t shirt instead of layers of clothes :)

Also- You end up eating more hair when grooming than is left on parts of the horse. Fly repellent becomes your best friend. And instead of using rain, ice, wind and darkness as an excuse not to ride, you start using the excuse its too hot :D
