There's this man at our yard. He used to jump grade A with some success and is a bit of a bragger, but basically he is a good bloke and will always help out if asked for help. HOWEVER, he is SUCH a ROYP person... he can't bear it if things look to be going too well for someone. For instance; the only horses that are really any good on the yard are his (raised eyebrow smiley), his daughter is the only really talented rider on the yard (considering daughter has been riding for just over a year and couldn't see a stride if it slapped her in the face... more raised eyebrows)
ANYhow, PF jumped really really well yesterday, I was SO pleased with her and RI said she was going really well and joked that the Uncles would want to borrow her. I was feeling that warm glow of having done well when JC said...
"She'll flatten out on the day" (referring to show this weekend and meaning she wouldn't give them so much air)
We later had the following conversation
JC: "Is she a pure TB?"
Me: "Yes, she is"
JC: "When they're good, TBs are lovely jumpers. I might get one for C (his daughter)
Me: "Hmmmm, I'm not sure, they tend to be a bit sharp"
*pause* (probably thinking I was hinting that daughter isn't a good enough rider- which she's not!)
JC: "She probably won't jump the big classes though" (meaning PF, not his daughter)
Me: "That's fine, 1.20 is more than enough for me"

Seriously though... Who asked him? I don't mind people giving their opinions freely, but at least they should wait to be asked, shouldn't they?
Anyway, I know he's just jealous because he's got 3 donkeys

Ah. If someone else is insisting on raining on your parade, it is advisable to become a duck. Let it wash over you, like water off a duck's back. You've got more bigger fish to fry. (apologies for string of cheesy water related similies there

Incidentally, if he's a man and obsessed with being the superlative, ever wondered what he has that is smaller than average that he might be trying to make up for??

Hehehe... possible. He's always trying to impress all the new girls on the yard. Sadly he's even more obnoxious when you first meet him. He's not really a bad bloke, he's just really really irritating.
 
Take no blooming notice, people should accept owners and their horses for who and what they are, rather than trying to life coach them and in this case rain on their parade, why can't people be happy for others when things are going well.

They must have there own issues and insecurities about their own horses or the way they do things if they go around pointing other peoples out, it makes them feel better.

Smile back and say yep your right, but then ignore and carry on as you do.....they soon stop doing it.

There is a girl and her mum on my yard and they do it ALL the time. Sometimes it bothers me and other times it doesn't. I do feel like doing it back to them somtimes but then my adult brain kicks in.
Doesn't stop me ranting like a mad thing at my OH who just says "all you horsey lot are the same!" he isn't a fan of my four legged money pits!
 
I think every yard has a ROYP person (hope you dont mind but I'm going to steal that one).
When B and I did our only dressage comp, unaffilliated Novice and won with 70% another livery said "horse could have got 60% doing it on his own" or words to that effect. Well to be honest I agree with her but she didn't need to say it.

PF it has got to be jealousy on this mans part, having seen pictures of PF, Antifaz and little Cigar, think I'd be a bit jealous too.

Some people think they know everything and know nothing. You always get one (if not more) on a yard. Take no notice and let him get on with it !!!

There so often seems to be someone who has "been there/done it" and they always seem to know best and a free with opinions even when they are not asked for. There is nothing worse when you are having a warm & fuzzy moment over an achivement to have one of these people come up with "their opinion" & take the moment away.

He tends to say it again and again each time in a louder voice. I know what he's like by now so it doesn't bother me (beyond the mild irritation of wondering why he feels the need to share his words of wisdom) but he p*sses a LOT of people off! Unsurprising, really

Thank you. He's snarky about the Little Cigar as well. Calls him "The filly" I just say "Yes, he is very pretty, isn't he?" which sort of takes the wind out of his sails

He's actually quite knowledgeable, but is too vocal. He told this other bloke that one of his daughters (both jumping 1.30 with great succes, BTW) would never be a really good rider and the other was really talented... Again; Who asked him? I thought that was incredibly rude!

Yes, exactly. I don't compete all that much and have only recently started getting PF properly fit and jumping since she had the Little Cigar. I also lack confidence in myself (jumping) so having her going really well is a total thrill for me...
Luckily I know what to expect now from this bloke and it doesn't bother me (much)

I always think its very flattering when people like that say something annoying like that - means they're ridiculously jealous and have been desperately searching for something wrong to pick on
