when would this method be used Lou? I ask because i have only heard very negative things about it. thanks x

Strasser was at the forefront of barefoot theory in the beginning.

And her theories were thought provoking.

But unfortunately, theory tends to fall down when it meets a horse!

What we know now is that you can't carve an ideal hoof model onto a horse. You can't trim or shoe a bad foot sound. You can only grow a new one and try to help where you can.

The clinic trim is not recommended at all! Many S. trimmers have modified their trim and taken on board less invasive trims and some theories about pedal bone position for example. Others have not and be warned I witnessed one of these clinic/full trims last summer (not in UK) and it is something to steer well clear of! Be warned! If you ever see two knives and lots of knife work at the heels, bars and sole shout STOP. If you hear talk of getting the coffin bone parallel to the ground, that definite angles have to be achieved at the hair line, that concavity must be achieved (there and then) walk away...

Surley its up to the society that they are showing under to ban these contraptions on their feet. It seems to have turned in to a contest of whose horse can put up with the worst contraptions on its feet and still actually move :(. Would it not be better to show then with normal feet and to have less extreem gaits but sound and comfortable horses moving the way they were intended to.

the strauser techinique has a time and a place.. it really does.. just not the place it was given a few year back by so called 'Remedial barefoot trimmers'

Lou x

wouldn't touch it after research, don't get me wrong her theory is right, but in reality it is impractical, you are to trim as if they were wild you have to take out other extraneous variables i.e.) the fact there is no free country for the horse to roam anymore.. sorry to hijack
