You know your horse loves you when.......

Skinny Minnie hears the car pull up, stops what she is doing, see's it's me (and not OH) and gallops down the field to meet me, whinnying :)

If OH gets out of the car she carries on munching and ignores him :D

Apparently both of mine used to recognise the sound of my car and run up to the gate even though they couldn't see me :D

Mine screams at me when I turn up..... I'm pretty sure its just because he knows its dinner/breakfast/turn-out time though :p.

I went away for a week though recently. He never comes over to come in, but when I returned a couple of days ago and went to bring him in he saw me, herded up the rest of the field and brought them all over in a flat out gallop to see me. Have to say, I thought that was quite cute and the first time he's done anything like that!

lol id love to think he is shouting 'hi mum! where have u been?', but alas im sure it's just that he knows it's dinner time.x

My mare lives out so no feed/turn out time for her, which is why I was so touched when this happened:
I went on holiday for 2 weeks and when I got back I went straight to the yard. She spotted the car and lifted her head to look, but when I got out and she saw it was me, she screamed at the top of her voice and came galloping to the gate only just slamming the brakes on in time so she didn't crash into me. She then whickered and snuffled all over my hair and face, and stuck to my side like glue. I'm not an overly emotional person, and my mare is not usually very soppy, which is why I was so surprised and subsequently burst into tears. I'm blaming a 12 hour flight and no sleep for my emotional outburst, lol. x

Mine had always been a bit on the quiet side until I had been seriously ill and couldn't to get to see him for a few days, driving onto the yard I could see him looking out over his door, he didn't spot me straight away but when I spoke to him he let out the loudest whinny and nodded his head furiously as if to say "at last you're here!" Ever since he has taken to whickering when he sees me coming, if he's out in the field he comes at the gallop complete with head tossing! Doesn't do it for OH though! lol

Because even though she's sweet & well mannered for everyone & is easy to do anything with, I am the only person she's affectionate with. She's indifferent to pats & cuddly stuff, & will calmly step away from people attempting it, or move her head to one side unless being ridden/ asked to stand. But is the opposite with me, all sloppy & cuddly.

Fergles hears the car and comes running to see me, calling all the way. Darach comes flying along behind and J wanders over at a leisurely pace. Fergs makes me feel very loved :o

If I were brutally honest, I would admit that it's really the access to haylage which I symbolise that he loves :p

Millie tries to apply brakes (isn't successful) when cantering to me if she's up the top end of the field, and contorts herself into the most unnatural positions to take evasive action instead of plowing through me :D For something that thinks its a delicate little Arab (instead of half hippo/half battleship) I find it quite endearing.

Well mine bit me this morning so we aren't really talking today :( having said that I got an extra big neigh this evening to make up for it! My boy will jump up in the air and gallop down the feild to me. I find this rather emotional as I nearly lost him last year and never thought I see him jumping about (he is meant to be always lame ) just seeing him walk up is enough . He didn't do this before his accident either so it just shows what we have been through together!

He saves his farts for whenever you are doing something near his back end (tail brushing, picking out hind feet, squeezing past his butt, washing him down etc) True love.... ;)

Venividicivi I thought you were describing my OH:D
My neddy runs up the field full pelt calling me if I haven't seen him for more than a couple of days.
If I'm up more often, he looks over his forelock at me whilst still grazing and watches my every move. All it takes is for me to turn my back on him and next thing he is at the gate straining to be let out. He panics if I leave him when he is either in his stable or tied up outside. He strains and contorts his head to watch my every move and lets me know he is jealous or feeling left out by stamping and pawing if I dare speak to another person or god forbid go near another horse.
A little nicker is all it takes to let me know he is lonely and wants me to come pronto.

...when she will leave her "brothers & sisters" stuffing their faces and have a snuggle on her own for ages.
..or when my difficult rescue mare rubbed her head on me for a scratch. It took her 2 years. Def worth the wait!!
..when my big gelding who was starved stopped looking grateful for his feed.

I am have no illusions that my horses prefer me over anyone else who brings them in to be fed or provides unlimited grub in the freezing winter.
The hand that feeds them is their friend at that particular moment in time.

When we are at a show and he calls and calls until I get back from handing my entries in, even though there are other people there.
He doesn't get ridden by other people often, but I like that he always plants himself with them because he doesn't know them, and why should I go forward for you. Even when they are brilliant riders. I had an unrideable horse when I first bought him, and he makes everyone else go through the same process!
He calls if I am hiding in the tack room, tea room, talking and not giving him attention.
I know everything about him, how he will react, what he likes/ dislikes, and he knows the same about me!
When I'm sad he stops trying to bite be and we just sit together by the manger.
If I don't see him for a couple of days he won't talk to me.
He's on full livery and he's been the same from being DIY.

I knew mine trusted me when, just a few weeks after she arrived, she managed to scratch her nose, arguing with her neighbour in the stable, let out a scream - to warn neighbour off - and then when I went to see what was going on, she stuck her nose over the door at just the right angle for me to see the tiny scratch and 'rub it better' for her. She is a big softy though!

Chloe spots me coming onto the yard sometimes before I see her and she always greets with a really loud whinny!

She watches me on the yard and whinnies after me, she even gave a really loud whinny today after we had rubbish lesson (my fault!)

I got bitten on the thigh this morning too and it is going to be ANOTHER big bruise (I have many atm) although sometimes he does gallop around bucking like a loony in sheer excitement when I arrive, but he does do that for other people too, I'm not his special friend yet!
