Well I dont personally pay for livery but dad always pays it before its due, unless he is away on business, allthough its rare for it not to be paid on time
Im quite happy to admit i am normally on time, but sometimes (including this month) I was late paying. Not because I have a prob paying, but because it is so rare to see my YM on the yard, I will pay him when I see him, and that can be several days late, but always have the money there when I see him
I put always pay on day due as mine goes by direct debit to the YO (who is actually my mother and she would kill me if I didn't) as it stops me forgetting. Otherwise I'm hopeless with money and would forget constantly! Any extras not included in bill (vet, extra food etc) are paid on last saturday of the month cos I get paid on last friday of month so she has to wait for those. I can't understand people who don't pay on time, unless they have a VERY good excuse, wages not been paid on time etc.
When I did I ALWAYS paid EXACTLY on the first of the month. Never one day late and never early ! LOL
At one stable I boarded at however I also did work in exchange for board so that situation was a bit flexible. It was the agreement though so it was not a problem. Bottom line, a responsible owner always follows the agreement set forth. It should be held to the same degree as paying your rent or mortgage imo...... although a homeless horse has a bit harder time finding a sofa to crash on when given the boot!
I always try to pay on time but our yard runs a 4 weekly billing system which means its never at the same time every month and some months there are 2 bills in a month. Would be sooo much easier if they billed monthly as I could then set up a direct debit etc. No excuse for paying late I know but it doesn't make life easy.
I'm normally on the due date, sometimes a day or two before, sometimes a day or two after. Depends on when I have my cheque book to hand!
But I never get a bill or am asked for money ! I just hand it over !!
On my first yard I choose to pay 4 weeks in advance when we arrived, they are personal friends and I knew they'd want to give us free livery, but I insisted, and paid on the day every 4 weeks in advance.
This yard I asked YO and she said just what suited me, in advance, in arears, weekly, fornightly or monthly she didn't mind. So I pay each week on the same day that I arrived, so Sat to Sat, I never forget and it's always on time. I have to do this or I would forget!!!! Just think how quickly it would add up to a rather sizable lump sum if i didn're remember!!
This doesn't apply to me now, but I have two Boarders, one of whom pays on the first of the month religeously, the other I have to chase every single time. I find it annoying and a little embarrassing as I don't like asking for money.
Actually, I'd be happy if they left, but as they owe me money the horse isn't going anywhere!
Don't have a due date - they give me a bill, I give them a cheque, usually the next day but always within a week. Mind you, we pay 1 month in advance for our stabling rather than in arrears - seems an eminently sensible way to do things IMO.
well i would pay on time but its really stuppid because my bill get sent to my house in west sussex but i'm in warwickshire and they wont send the bill to me here so i don't normally get my bills until i go home. For one of my friends her bills get sent to ireland, not much use when she is in england!
I clicked always pay before it is due but by that I mean always on time. As it is diy and we get bits added, we have to wait for our bill then I always write a cheque out within a day or two so I am never late in paying. I pay all my bills on time that way I know what I have left for the rest of the month
I am on DIY and pay the basic livery fee (for the stable) by standing order every month. I then get billed for "extras" like hay straw and feed and I pay this within a day or two of being given it. Payment is due within a week (I think) and I have never left it that long to pay.
It helps that I get paid at the end of the month and get billed at the start. I would rather pay it and get it out of the way then know what mnoney is mine for the rest if the month!
I sort of pay in advance
for example i paid £120 for 8 weeks livery which runs out on the 10th June
So on the 11th of june i will pay another amount. Its £15 a weeks so i will draw some cash out... usually pay for 4 weeks as it saves getting £15 out the bank every week,
I usually pay on time though have been a few days late paying on the odd occasions as sometimes they dont answer the door (dont have a doorbell so dont always see you or hear you knocking) or they are lovely people but as the yards in the middle of no where one of the YO's gets lonely so once you go round you are often there for at least 1 1/2hrs so i usally go on a day where i have time to stop for a chat.
YO doesnt mind and knows im not going anywhere
I put usually on time of due date but sometimes a day or so late as YO prefers cash so i have to try and get to a cash point and withdraw that much dosh lol...
My old yard, im afraid to say i paid when i get round to it, again he wanted cash, and i hardly ever saw him...he was ok with it tho.
We pay our 'stable and grazing' bill directly to the YO by standing order every month. The 'livery services' bill is weekly, by hand, and I always pay in cash immediately I am given it. Our hay and straw bills are twice a month, and I pay that in cash, too, as I receive them.
I too am lucky enough to keep my horses at home, but we have 40 liveries too - I would say approx 3 quarters are good payers - always on time, of the remaining quarter most are late but do pay eventually, and then we have 3 appalling payers who owe in the region of almost £3,000.00 between them!
We are supposed to pay between the 1st and 10th of each month and I always do. I don't suppose everyone DOES though and I don't think much would happen if I were late with my rent.
