I put other because I'm usually a bit late paying it but I think the YO probably does mind! I've only been there a few months though and hope to improve my payment record

It's so difficult as I hate cheques and there are no cashpoints around. The bill always varies or I would pay it by SO.I do pay 1 month in advance though so I don't think its too much of a problem if im a few days late...

Mine used to be set up on Direct Debit so always paid on time, but now as I have my own place the shoe is on the other foot.
My friend/livery always pays within a few days of the 1st of the month but as it is only £200 for 4 horses its no big deal.
I'm sure if I had a bigger yard I would insist on Direct Debit especially if you had other bills to meet ie feed, farrier.
Are you still having problems with a livery not paying??(I hope that was you now I come to think of it

Mum pays the bill, we get the bill sent through at the end of the month and then you have about 7 days to pay it.
The amount varies each month due to hay and worming going on the bill so direct debit is not possible

I always pay before it is the last due date because I pay on an earlier set day by direct debit every month - takes the worry out of remembering to do it.

Livery is paid direct debit/standing order and hay is paid cash normally on time but sometimes late. If it's not much ie less than £20 I tend to forget to pay it for a week or two. I'm never asked for it - I usually say that i've got it or will be bringing it soon.

I sort of pay in advance
for example i paid £120 for 8 weeks livery which runs out on the 10th June

So on the 11th of june i will pay another amount. Its £15 a weeks so i will draw some cash out... usually pay for 4 weeks as it saves getting £15 out the bank every week,
I usually pay on time though have been a few days late paying on the odd occasions as sometimes they dont answer the door (dont have a doorbell so dont always see you or hear you knocking) or they are lovely people but as the yards in the middle of no where one of the YO's gets lonely so once you go round you are often there for at least 1 1/2hrs so i usally go on a day where i have time to stop for a chat.
YO doesnt mind and knows im not going anywhere

Bloomin heck, thats cheap!!!! I had a DD to my previous Yard of £175 per month!!!

i am a bit irratic [is that the right word?!] with my payment. some months i am a week early, some months i am on time, and some months im a week late !!! my YO is very relaxed about it luckily - ive never been more than 2 weeks late and that was only because id been on holiday so i was a bit skint that month!! i feel awful if i dont pay on time but most of the time its forgetfulness rather than anything else

I always pay 1 month in advance, and lucky in the fact that i can see my horses from the living room window, have no neighbours, and a wonderfull landlord, BLISS

Our yard is four weekly too, but what I've done is to average out the 13 x 4 weekly payments and divided them into 12, so that I just DD the money to the yard on my pay day.

Makes it easier all round, and I don't end up in arrears. I do know a lot of people though that are always late with their payments, and then end up owing lots of money - I even know of a case where one of the liveries didn't pay for so long, that they had to end up giving their pony to the YO to cover the debt!

I choose other as we get monthly bills put in our individual pigeon holes. When the bill appears i pay by cheque the next time i am at the yard so it can vary depending on when bill appears!

I pay when I see the YM which isn't very often so it is sometimes late, when it is I usually pay for the next month at the same time!

Pay by direct debit for monthly bill, pay cash or cheque for shoes and wormer when I'm told it's happening.

Think I'm a fairly nice livery to have.

My YO isn't the best at billing us - I need a bill from her so that I can settle up properly every month as she adds on random lessons and schooling sessions - I don't keep track (which I know I should).

Thank you everyone who voted - and thanks for being so honest.

For those who say their YO doesn't mind them being late please may I take a moment of your time to ask you to go and read the thread entitled Salaries down in SB written by me.

For those who pay on time - you are good citizens and you shall be repaid in many ways I believe; may good Karma be with you at all times.

I try to always pay when due. Sometimes though my wages are late, or non existant, so I'm late paying. Thankfully YO is quite understanding about it.

When I get a new job I'll be setting up a direct debt.

I put other. Livery wasn't a set amount every month, so YO leaves bills in envelopes which we'd collect. Then my mum would write out a cheque and I'd return it, sometimes I'd leave it by the board but I usually tried to give it to her personally.

So we were always as prompt as possible, but sometimes it was a few days before we'd see the YO to give her the cheque.

When we ran livery we had two brill more mature ladies who always paid 3days before it was due EVERY month and any extras were always paid for before hand. Whenever we lent the box out to them it returned filled with fuel, clean and with an amount f money in the dash and usually a post it reading "thanks again"
We had a young woman with a teen daughter who kept two horses with us, she was always late, once owing 3monthes livery and always with an excuse on tap "tomorrow" etc. She borrowed to box twice and it came back both times in a mess, the only thing left in the glove box was an empty coke can and she would borrow my stuff and on one occasion used my old hunter's tack for the weekend, she was the final straw of our livery yard, all off and private and now thats how it shall stay.

I have a standing order set up at bank which pays livery every month-we worked out weekly cost of 3 at livery and multiplied by 52 then divided by 12 to give us an average.I just need to pay as required things when they come along.Find this has worked great for me for yrs as kept genuinely forgetting to give cheques when payment due this way no hassle!!Everyones happy!!So would say usually on time

I pay by standing order when I get paid. Never have to think about it and don't understand why everyone with a regular salary doesn't do it that way.

Our Stable rent goes out via standing order on the first of the month, for the previous month. All extras then get paid when I get my bill ie bags of feed, hay etc

I voted Other as although rent is due on 1st of every month, YO issues a bill and then everyone pays. We pay within a day or two of being given our bill.

We get an invoice on the 1st of every month. It varies each month depending on worming/services etc so I never pay before it is issued.

We have 7 days to make the payment and, I generally take up a cheque the afternoon of getting the invoice or, sometimes the day after. Im never late though

i tended to pay it within a couple of days of getting the bill - sometimes if i was strapped for cash etc near the end of the month i would speak to YO and either give them a forward dated cheque or agree to pay the whole wack (we were billed fortnightly) in cash when i got payed.

if you are short or havnt got payed on time etc i think communication is the key.

I always paid mine before it was due, I cant remember being late once!
Now that I run my own yard I get annoyed with some of my owners. All of them pay in the end but to have outstanding payments can make life difficult at times. The worst I have had was about eight months behind and after repeated phone calls and threats to tie her horse to a tree(which Id never do) she paid. I insisted she paid her future bills by standing order and all extras would be paid every three months at the latest. Dont livery owners realise that their horse is fed, mucked out, turned out etc and that electricity, water, hay, feed, vets and blacksmiths have to be paid in the meantime and that late paying can be embarassing for all concerned? I HATE LATE PAYERS WITH A VENGENCE! It shows a lack of respect for the hard work of others and for themselves
