"You think more of that bl***y horse than you do of me!!" who's heard this before?

Horses are a way of life, they take up so much of your time, but also much of our thoughts as well. I say it's like having another child at a boarding school when they are living at a livery yard, or an aged relative in a care home if horse is aged and need medication.
I hear so many of my friends getting grief from OH when they have to split themselves between family responsibilities and horse time.
 
My BF got upset when he came to the stables with me. Before I leave I give my horse a kiss on the nose and say "night night, love you" (yes, pathetic I know!). BF was like "you never do that to me :( "
 
I counter argument with the Xbox addiction he has!

I ALWAYS win, he can be up at 6am, switch the da*n thing on and still be sat at there 12 hours later
 
My OH gets "you think more about that mini than me" (hes restoring a rust bucket)

and i get that OP's line right back :) but honestly, we are both too busy doing our own things to get annoyed at each other. its quite nice!
 
Ex husband used to say it. One of the many reasons I love my boyfriend is because he doesn't think like that. We were discussing our respective ex's years ago, he said words to the effect of 'what kind of sad git would be jealous of an animal? It's not like it can look after itself'. And that anyone who loves you, wouldn't want to stop you doing something thats important to you.
 
My boys can't look after themselves, they can't get their own food/ water or change their own rugs so yes - they do come first! Sorry but it's a simple fact.
Luckily my husband is logical also so understand why something that is 100% reliant on me for everything has to come first.

I also chose the horse a few years back, Ex is long gone but the horse is still here!
 
I know, he's not the typical romantic sort, but sweet in his own way. He calls mine 'the dogmeat' as a nickname. And then one morning when I'd arranged horses to be done, daughter at a friends etc so we could have a lie in, he shook me awake to tell me 'its late, quick, the dogmeat needs feeding'.
 
My OH is great to be fair! He has his golf and I have my horses. He does however say in jest sometimes "You'd pick that horse over me any day", to which I reply "And you would pick golf".
 
MY OH is terrible - he seems to have a pure jealousy issue when I want to go to the yard - yet I am the one responsible for the kids, school runs, cleaning, washing etc the majority of the time. It wrecks my head tbh and at this stage just try to ignore it!
 
My boyfriend is jealous of my horse, but he knows the score! Horse is first, he's ....well fourth, after the cat and dog! x My animals mean the world to me and he laughs that i say 'good night, love you, see you tomorrow' to the horse, i think he'd love me to sell my animals but he'd daren't say anything!! He knows my ex of 4 years had his bags on the doorstep for telling me to put my horse down :eek: x

If he ever moans about how much money i spend on Billy i always come back with 'well you spent £100 on one car lightbulb!!' (Apparently it was an 'amazing lightbulb which changes colour when you drove towards the car'.....so he didnt get to see it work anyway!! :rolleyes:
 
£100 for a lightbulb?! :eek:

I think us horsey women need an OH with their own hobby - golf, cars, music band etc - which takes up their time so they don't mind us spending hours down the yard!

That reminds me, not long after me and my now Ex got together I was having a bit of a struggle with money. I did have a really nice car at the time, and the horse and I was spending loads of fuel in this stupid car driving back and forth to his and we were going out all the time. He suggested I put the horse on loan for 6 months til i sorted myself out. I went nuts. I didnt kick him out but I did tell him the first thing to go would be the car, then him but never the horse. lol
 
It's simple!! You need an PH with his own horse!! We are just off to the yard to jump mine, he says he is coming so I don't have to keep getting off to alter the jumps!!
 
In some ways I think I'm lucky that husband shares my love of horses... He never used to but I think decided it would be the better option for him.

It's terribly geeky but the nights he does evening stables with me, we each give our favourites a kiss before bed and say night night. He does however moan when I'm wiping snot over my jacket or find nothing wrong with eating my tea still soggy and smelling from a days work, without washing my hands :)

I have never heard that from my OH as he has his own interests but he has gone from being a person that viewed animals as plauge carriers to being rather fond of them. It really makes me smile when he scoops up on of the ferrets for a cuddle or I watch him laughing at a pony's antics. He has come a loooooong way!
 
My hubby enjoys the horses as much as me (and he probably thinks more of them than he does me!). Because he is so busy with a full time job, and his 'hobby business', he likes going up to the field for a bit of peace. In fact, if he's had an early finish, he'll go and do the horses himself.

I know that I am very lucky that he enjoys them, and understands that they need to come first. I don't think I'd last long with a jealous OH, if they threatened "it's me or the horses", their bags would be packed before they finished the sentence :o
 
Dave was blamed for break up of nearly 7 year relationship, despite the fact that I was self employed at the time and almost always at the yard when ex was at work. Somehow he couldn't take on board that I took Dave on because I couldn't get human out of bed before 2pm to do anything I suggested, yet if his mates rang at 0630 because it was good bike weather, he was out of the house in 10 minutes. I needed something to occupy my time. And guess what - if we compromised and had "hobby" time in the morning with arrangements to do something together in the afternoon, I was always at home having rushed about and MIGHT eventually get a call to say he was still 3 hours away.

Anyone new in my life gets told that it's as if I come with a child - like it, accept it or p*ss off! The person I suspect to be a soulmate, who I can't be with, brought polos even though the stables make him sneeze, and walked Dave out to the field with me in his best shoes (much to Dave's disgust!) within the first month of knowing each other....something the ex never once did! Life's a bitch sometimes!!
 
I feel v lucky that OH caught the horsey bug through me and now wants one of his own! Id always have horses in my life regardless of if OH approved or not, it keeps me sane and therefore easier life for OH.
 
My mum said it to me (she's now 92) a few years ago. It upset me a great deal particularly so as I've always tried to make sure that she doesn't feel left out or neglected. I've given up a great deal to care for her at home, and still she came out with that remark. It was a really spiteful thing to say and whilst I'm 99% sure she's forgotten it, I haven't. It was horrid, unnecessary, and IMO deliberately spiteful. And also, basically, I don't think it was justified either.
 
My ex did the 'me or the horse' thing... Also had a hissy fit if I spent more time than absolutely necessary at the yard...hence is now 'ex'! No one comes between me and my boy! :-)
 
Guilty of saying it :o

OH and I met and fell in love through our mutual obsession with horses. BUT he has two mares who he absolutely dotes on, and although I love that he loves them, sometimes I want us to talk about things other than his 'girls'.

Mind you in the last couple of weeks I've noticed that most of my Facebook updates are horse-related and am waiting for non-horsey friends to tell me to put a sock in it!
 
I am lucky with my hubby :) he is happy for me to be and the yard and if he is missing me that much he joins me at the yard and poo picks or grooms them for me.

Although in return I don't moan about all his hobbies/lads nights out etc.
