You tube and the death of Hickstead in the ring

I've seen the video... It's not pleasant but it's clear that every effort was made to try and save him.

Everyone grieves differently, some will find peace watching whilst others won't.

It highlights that even the most famous animal is still a horse like the rest and tragedys can happen anywhere.

My heart and deepest sympathy goes out to all his connections and rider... A true legend that wont be forgotten. RIP x

im not sure how this whole offended thing works.... Do folk see a title and think thats offensive so i will watch it and then tell anyone who will listen how offended I am? Out of all the clips and pictures and films available to be offended at on the internet what makes the natural death of a horse worthy of so much attention?

I have to say that I viewed it for educational reasons so I could see what happens when a horse collapses and dies, as it is my job to care for horses and I believe seeing this kind of thing would make me cope much more calmly with a similar thing should it happen on my watch. I hope it never does. Yes it did reduce me to tears and I have no need to watch it again, but I'm glad I did. RIP Hickstead, beautiful boy.
I did this too.... and also shed a tear. I've been lucky in that, as yet, I've not had to witness a horse dying but with 3 of my own I know that this is inevitable at some point. Watching horses die is never going to be a pleasant thing but I'm one of those people who prefer to have an idea of what to expect and this has helped me for the future.

Hickstead was a beautiful horse and it doesn't look like he suffered - I don't think he would have been aware of what was happening from the moment he dropped, may he rest in peace.

I think that with the age of the internet the public are able to view what they want when they want, whether it be something fluffy like a cat doing something cute or something more hardcore like a soldier shooting a man out of his hiding place from 2km way. If you want to watch either its up to you.

My problem with the first video i saw posted on here was that it immediately went to him thrashing on the ground, at the time i was not ready to see that and there was no warning given on the post that this was going to be the case (i asked TFC to put a warning on the link as it was not there when i opened it). There are youngish people who use this forum i believe that there are "better" clips to watch to be educated and not too upset by than that one. I thought it was in bad taste and strongly believe that the video was not posted as an "educational" video but rather more of a "i got a vid on here before anyone else arent i clever". No other reason. I have since watched a second video of the event and it was, IMO, far more "educational" than the first and far less "shocking".

I will also add that the first video was also linked in a thread in CR and was not well received there whereas the second video was.

That will teach me to walk blindly into the world of "latest news"!!

R.I.P Hickstead.

you are talking out of a cavernous black hole (again.) When I posted the link I also wrote "AWFUL":( so how could anyone think they were going to see the opposite? Stop trying to dig yourself out of the hole you created. I'm still hoping that you are mature enough to apologise to me although I wont be holding my breath.

PS, many thanked me for posting the FIRST video link-have a look, it's in black and white.;)

Fairynuff, i am mature enough to apologise when i think it is warranted. As for the comments i directed at you on the other thread, i stand by everything i said. If you have a problem with that then so be it. I have stated why i think you were wrong to post the link and i will not go over it agin. It is my opinion and i stand by it. I did not respond to your further comments on that thread, i treated them with the contempt i felt they, and you, deserved.

There us a lot worse on you tube than a horse dying. A famous Moto GP rider was killed in a race a few weeks back , he was only 24 and the crash was posted on you tube within minutes, again it was also on live tv so nothing that had not already been broadcasted around the world anyway. There wad no criticism in the biking world about that, most wanted to view it to see what happened. It's human nature to be curious , I really don't see what the fuss is all about. Do you watch nature programs..?? Lions ripping animals apart etc on tv - what is the difference..?? Yes it's a terrible shame he died and on TV but it happened, deal with it and stop slating others who wanted to view it...!!! Each to there own and all that.

I think that everyone knows these videos will be on youtube and other sites, and if they want to go and see them they can.

I also think that if you are posting a potentially upsetting video on a forum such as this then it's a good idea to post a warning as to the content of the video. Then people have the choice to click on the link if they wish. For example, Kerilli posted a video a few months ago where a young eventer suffered a fatal rotational fall. She had permission from TFC to post the video and made it perfectly clear what you would see.

Fairynuff - the 'awful' comment you posted could easily have referred to the fact that Hickstead dying was 'awful', not specifically that the link was... I think the change that TFC made was a sensible one. I think following posters around demanding an apology and comments such as PMSL xx on a news thread about a horse's death is inappropriate.

Did I watch the video? Yes. Was I upset by it? No, I have seen many animals die. I do however respect that other people won't want to see it; that's their choice.

RIP Hickstead

I haven't mentioned TFC's actions.
I have not 'followed' anyone.
I have not 'demanded, an apology although being called a 'sado' etc from someone who does not know me or my motives does merit one.
PMSL was directed at PF's post and had absolutely nothing to do with original reason for the thread.

I hope I have been able to clear up these points.:)
