I'm going showing for the first time on sunday, Ihave never shown a pony in my life! I am very excited but obviously nervous at the same time lol.
The class I am definately doing is tack and turnout, this will msot likely be the only ridden am I doing i think.
I might do either a veteren in hand, a young handler class and maybe most handsome? Not sure yet though.

Just wondering if a young handler class requires you to do anything other than the usual in hand show?

Good luck vibes would be appreciated!

yerp its basically the same, if anything different the judge might want to see you pick one of its fore hooves up, or back the horse up when she pulls you out individually.
but yeah basically the same....dont foget to walk with the horse, not infront.

some times they ask you to make the horse go backwards, if they do remember to walk forward a couple of steps afterwards.

a nice thing to do is when youve done your trot up, trot right round the back rigth to the end of the line, then nod at the judge to say thanks.

take some polos in or pick some grass to keep ponies attention (pridey is particularly partial to polos)

Be polite, most importantly though you need to smile!

When I'm judging Young Handler classes, I am amazed at how many competitors forget to turn their pony AWAY from them when turning to trot back to the Judge.

Points I look for when Judging:-

1 - Standing the pony up properly with handler IN FRONT facing pony
2 - Leading it correctly, by the shoulder
3 - Turning round
4 - Trot straight towards the Judge, not past
5 - Good answers to basic horse management questions
6 - Correct turn-out of competitor - a hat, gloves and stick are a MUST
7 - Clean tack

NB. All the above should apply to ANY in hand class.

Good luck - do let us know how you get on.
