I've just bought a lovely british bred 3yo, breeding inc. Furst Heinrich, Florestan, Acord, Donnerhall. Just planning out his dressage career - he'll be broken in over the winter, and depending on how he matures in that time I'm looking into young horse competitions next year.

He turns 4 at the end of May 2016, the local Shearwater YH class is in April :-( does that mean he can't do it..? Never sure how these work - whether it's their age at time of event, that year, or in January...

Any advice? He will be sold at some point, so getting qualifications etc will be important.

And is it worth getting a pro to ride them? I'm only really Novice/Ele myself and a definite amateur and my groom/rider is an eventer rather than a dressage rider! But I have a few friends at a much higher level who I could ask to ride him.

The age is taken as 1st of January so he will be classed as 4 throughout 2016. So your show in April will be fine :). YH 4 year old classes are like easy Novices really and tend to be dominated by pros so it is worth getting a good pro experienced in young horse classes to do it if you want to be very competitive.

Ah that's great, thank you!
