Rising 5yr old warmblood mare, very well bred and talented, owned since a 3yr old, broken and backed been to low key shows, then BSJA and county shows for ridden showing classes, xc schooled etc she hacks out alone or in company, has always had an attitude problem, would buck etc. We've managed to 90% of the time sort that, until Dec, she came back from 2wks schooling with my trainer (4* event rider), he takes her every few months for boot camp, he broke her and works well with her, since then I've taken her to 3 shows, 2 at the same venue which she has been to and competed at before and got eliminated at both shows, first show she jumped the first two fences (facing towards the door) then reared at the doors and refused to move, no amount of kicking and smacking her makes her go forward. Then went and hired the same venue the following week, warmed up outside, took her in to a full course of sj which was set out for a show the following day, other than one small blip at the start, she was great! Then took her the following week to a RC area show, she pretty much did exactly the same thing, although had a diva strop between fences and then napped at the doors, managed to get her past the doors towards the next fence but she completly switches off, goes dead to the leg, I can barely get a trot out of her. This weekend we try a different venue, unaff low key (4riders in a class) also on a 'calmer' science supplements ProKalm, huge indoor, warmed up, went in and tried a clear round then straight into competitive round, went in and was much more forward than she has been previously, clear round she napped at the door, organisers were great and I worked her through, competitive round, she was good, cantered past the door twice and was forward. Decided to take her in again for the next class, then she was worse, jumped all fences towards home beautifully, anything away from the door again I could barley get her to trot.
Any suggestions? I have vet coming tomorrow with idea of trying a bute trial, I really dont think theres anything wrong with her, other than her attitude stinks, shes fine in all lessons, arena hire etc etc, she has massage every 6wks, physio 6months, farrier 5wks, teeth 4months, and saddler 3/4months, shes up to date with everything!
My thoughts are to send her to a sj'r to get her out and about 2/3 times a week so its boring and not exciting.
OR do I throw her out in the field for a few weeks, although will it be reawarding her bad behaviour? HELP!
