I have a young 4 year old, I am looking to go and do a residential training programme or training livery with him.

He has only just turned 4, and is a Welsh Section D..

I am very much interested in show jumping but I don't want to push him too much just yet as he has only been backed a couple of months, he does enjoy his jumping but obviously needs a bit more flatwork in place and needs to become more balanced..

Do you think it would be worth going to do a residential dressage livery programme for a month this year to establish the flatwork and get him schooled to a better standard with professional support and advice before putting the jumping in place,

There is a local dressage training programme for a month near me, but the showjumping one I want to do is 5-6 hours away (classicshowjumpers), cant find any other local ones at the moment,

just asking for 2nd opinions from everyone

I have a couple of welsh D's. One of whom is four. I don't think I would be taking her on a months training this year as I think she would be too babyish.
My 9 year old I took hunting before I ever did any show jumping and she is as bold as a lion.
I do think the natural fences and faster pace helped her be as good as she is.
Where are you based? Maybe some good local clinics might help.
I would have started doing that with mine but sadly I bust 3 of my ribs on Saturday eventing in a rotational fall, so that's on the back burner now
Good luck with everything
