I'm leasing a four year old horse turning five and she's always tripping. She also puts her head down a lot sometimes and I thought maybe she's loosing her balance so she leans forward??? Are all yearlings unaware of where there feet are? If done some jumping and sporting with her and she's doing well. Do you think there are some exercises to teach her to lift up her feet or stay more balanced.:)

Is she putting the head down when riding only? If so i would say maybe a saddle problem. My horse came with a saddle and was fine for a while, but when he put on weight and muscle, he started tripping more and always throwing his head down. Wider saddle and a chiro session now he doesn't do it. I also work a loooot on his back end, lots of transistions and poles trying to get him to pick up from the back .

I would discuss this with the farrier. My young horse went through a phase of forging after being ridden (I always lead my horse through a field after riding, back to the stables, and he would forge when led but not when ridden), my farrier assessed the situation and helped with what was essentially a period of skeletal growth.

She's a 4yo not a yearling? You could check out proprioception exercises/balance exercises on Google which may help. Hacking out, not on roads, is wonderful for balance and for a horse to learn to be clever with its feet, body and mind.

Your other post said the horse was resisting being tacked up, and now horse is tripping, does sound like something needs looking at here, have you had saddle checked for correct fit? Do the feet need a trim? When you walk out in hand does the horse trip then!

I agree with this get the saddle looked at sounds like it could be too narrow causing it to be uncomfortable.

my horse was tripping regularly, then I realised it had only begun when Id bought some new 'Elico petal' type over reach boots. Took them off and he never tripped since!

my youngster was a bit trippy last year and I was told its probably were he was growing and going bum high

it wasn't that, he did end up going lame after a while but he does have on going issues, with his feet but would be worth getting her checked to make sure its nothing that is hurting her that is causing her to trip
