I'ma bit confused and concerned about my 6 year old Welsh D mare, who I have had for about 9 months.

The underside of her neck was saggy when I first brought her, vet looked at it when first got her and said he thought it was muscle wastage and that she should grow out of it when in proper work. She hasnt- and I havnt been able to find anything similar on the internet when searching for it. Vets out to do vaccs any ways in a few weeks so will ask him to look again, but was wondering if anyone had ever seen anything similar?

The whole of her windpipe area area is a bit droppy- it moves every easily if you 'waggle' it, and at the bottom where it connects to her chest there is a tennis ball sized lump. The lump is soft and feels vaguely musclely, and she doesnt mind it being prodded and poked etc. Her chest then has a bony point underneath this lump.

Its never bothered her in anyway- just looks weird. She does crib occasionally- could this have anything to do with it?

Will try to work out how to post pics!

I agree, photos are needed. From what you say it sounds like it may be an old injury; perhaps running into a fence.

Hopefully that works...

I hope that works. :)

I've not seen anything like it, but if the vet has checked her over and thinks that she's in no pain, I wouldn't worry. No harm in asking the vet to look again when they come.

you need to bring up the photo on photobucket and then click on where it says 'copy' on right hand side. Then paste it here.

Those look almost like the cartilage rings which stop the trachea from collapsing, but there should be muscle between the trachea and the skin, very strange.. I would also get the vet to take another look, hope its nothing to worry about.

It looks like the cartilage rings in the windpipe have collapsed against the skin. Not normal and should be investigated.

Thanks, the photos dont do it justice, it looks worse in real life. Just been up trying to take some better ones but think her colouring doesn't help show it on photos...
Not sure if its got worse in last 9 months or if summer coat has made it more obvious, and yes, although the whole lower throat, from jaw line to chest is saggy, its the the rings that concern me the most.
