Youngster biting/breaking field mates rugs. Help!

So my youngsters being a real pain in the bum!

My 3 horses are turned out together and recently my youngster (5yrs) thinks its rather amusing to hang on to the tail flap of the pony, who also thinks its hilarious! I on the other hand don't fancy buying new rugs every other week! So does anyone know any tips or tricks to put the youngster off (something that tastes horrible etc) They're certainly having a whale of a time churning up my fields!

My 5 year old has similar habits. He is on individual turnout but that doesn't prevent him snatching off his neighbours fly masks in the summer or grabbing their rugs over the fence. He's just very 'mouthy' with everything.

I was looking for Cribox in Countrywide today, as he also chews the fence posts to entertain himself. They didn't stock it but did have a spray on anti chew liquid which I imagine you could use on fabrics so that may be worth looking at.
 
Robinsons do an anti chew spray which i was going to pick up as Ted likes to chew his lead rope on occasion but it has paprika in it and would stain everything so I didn't bother in the end.
 
I used Leovet Anit-bite spray on a fly rug this year, to prevent one of my lot taking chunks out of Alf. It worked a treat - and I got great satisfaction out of watching his face when he first tried to bite him.
I subsequently caught him licking the treated rug with an expression of bliss on his face, but decided that I'd rather he did that than continued to savage the horse underneath
 
Can you attach something prickly to the outside of the tail flap? I made myself an armband out of a bristly door mat when my youngster kept biting me. To be fair it was more use as a comedy prop but I still think the idea has merit. The trouble with an anti bite spray is that I imagine he could get the flap between his teeth without tasting it all that much!

I'll give the anti-bite spray a go and hope he dislikes the taste, although knowing him he'll love it!

Well watching him today he's decided the tail flap just isn't enough. Deciding to hang on to any part of the rug he can get his chops round! Currently having visions of the pony looking like a hedgehog :)
 
Have a youngster who has done all this. I've sprayed all my oldie's rugs with Yum Yum plus ended up buying rugs with at least a 1200D outer
 
Thanks for the advice guys! My local tack shop only had Naffs no bite but it certainly seems to be doing the trick! Rugs in once piece now! I also sprayed some on the straw beds as mine like to have a chomp on that too! They haven't touched it since.

If desperation sets in, then a grazing muzzle will stop it.

I've lent out my huge (Dinky company one, fitted 16.2 easily) one to a friend last winter as her 4 yr old gelding was a ruddy nuisance and costing shed loads in rug repairs to the 5 others out with him. (they were all in at night)
A week was all it took to break the habit but she kept the muzzle for much longer, popping it on, on occasions to reinforce the biting/riping.
