Went to turn the young horse out after 3 weeks box rest, took every precaution I could - quite yard - hard hat, gloves, bridle, direct route to the field.

A crop scarer or shotgun went off just as we got to the gate way - she bowled into me knocked me over and went up in the air - only place for her to land was on me - i heard my leg go "snap" - she was very good and waited whilst i screamed blue murder, and phoned for my mate to come and get me.

Just back from hospital - they were brill - x ray shows i have snapped the back of my leg - fracture clinic tomorrow :( i just hope it will be a quick one to heel.

Its my right leg so cant even drive an automatic - I have just had a mega job interview as well - and I was due back for a 2nd interview the week after next - and whilst yes I will still go - would it put you off as a boss ?

To add insult to injury I need to lose a stone or so and now i am out of action it will be even harder to shift some weight - but the extra weight is not a help when your scooting round on your bum up and down stairs.

oh my ouch. Just shows these things always happen when you blooming least expect it.

Glad you were able to call your friend.

Perhaps time to ask farmer to move crow scarer a bit further away, into his field now this has happened... at least until your youngster gets use to it from a tad further away.

Hope it heals fast....

Re job no go to the interview it shows you are not a sickee dodger and very keen to turn up with a broken leg. That could happen to anyone. If they like you thats what matters.

second the ouch! Hope it repairs quickly you can still do lots of exercises to lose weight and it might help because you'll have to do things that will build muscle and that always helps lose weight faster.

Thanks - I have just phoned my current boss and said that i will be in late tomorrow morning as i have broken my leg and he said "when will you be in" - I said "after fractrue clinic tomorrow" - he said "i thought you said that - wont you be off for a few months?? " me - "No - we have a lift dont we and as long as you will get me a drink i have only hurt my leg - "??

He was speechless ? - stunned was more of the word -

bless - feel guilty now if i do get this other job - he was so kind

Big ouch :(

A&E on a Sunday morning is the only upside as you get seen quickly.

Job interview - no problem. Shows a stoic & gutsy attitude (just wouldn't mention the horse as cause of accident. IME non-horsey bosses can sometimes see negatives when they know peeps spend time with horses i.e. lots of injuries!) unless of course it's a job with horses ;)

Hope it heals quickly!

Get well soon!

I have heard some people being put off horse owners as employees. I was asked at an interview once what I did in my spare time. When i aid i had a horse, Her response was - how many days off sick did I take last year? I said 3 and she automatically said, "oh dear, the horse kicked you?" I said, no, I had food poisoning. I didn't get the job.... But with that attitude, I didn't want it!!! Sme people are a little ignorant when it comes to horses I'm afraid. Maybe she had a bad experience with someone who had horses previously, but I am careful what I tell people these days...

Good luck!!

Ouch!!! I ditto the dont tell new job about a horse injuring you!

My work take a dim view of anytime off due to horse related injuries lol. Or indeed any out of work activities that could injure you.

Hence we are all a very careless bunch, constantly tripping up kerbs, falling down stairs etc.

Hope you mend ASAP!

I used to glide [flying without engines], and one girl was told she was puting her career [banking] at risk as it is a risk activity, well I can tell you people who take risks don't fly for very long!
Sending healing vibes, it is amazing what modern medicine can do these days.

ohhhh ouch, no hard hat or bp is going to save you from that kind of injury!! i hope the screaming blue murder helped with the pain, i find a good effing and b'ing a great hep;):)

Ditto the not mentioning horses at an interview...I was at one and said I had horses and the interviewer said 'oh you're not one of those people who are always in late and rush off at five to feed your horses are you?'....no of course not i said, in my head thinking oh yes I am :D

Get well soon, you sound very brave and practical going back to work tomorrow...good for you, hope you heal quickly and are back on both feet very soon.

Exactly the same thing happened to me on April Fools' Day 2008: turning out a large weanling. So you doubly have my sympathy. It's not a nice experience.

Was someone with you when it happened? I was at the yard with only my 4 young children with me, and they were in the car waiting for me back at the yard whilst I walked up to the paddock to turn out. Thank goodness one of them noticed me sat on the ground and ran to raise the alarm. I was lucky. I'd have been in a big pickle if I'd been on my own.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. (((( Hugs ))))

Ouch!! Hope you heal quickly!

Regarding the weight loss, you'll be surprised at how hard getting around on crutches is ;) (a large friend lost his huggggggeeeee backside when he was on crutches!)

Bummer. Hope you recover soon!

Sounds like you have a sympathetic boss. They aren't always. A friend of mine, a chemistry PhD student, dislocated his shoulder on a Scottish mountain, falling over on a snow slope. The following week he could not do much in the lab in his drugged-up one-armed state. His supervisor sent him a long e-mail more or less asserting that undertaking activities such as mountaineering was a very unprofessional and negligent choice for an aspiring chemist, as it could (and in my mate's case did) result in getting injured and ever-so-precious work time being lost.

Nice guy.
