Youngster - In hand showing advice?

I'm planning on taking my 2 year old to an in-hand coloured class at a local show in a few weeks.

Does anyone have any tips on what she and I should wear, how the class is likely to work (i.e. what will we have to do), and as it's her first ever party - any tips for me on handling her? She's usually a very good girl and leads nicely!

Haven't done a lot of showing. But I know if it has hair on the legs it's should have a natural mane. So yours looks like no hair so she should be plaited. That's all I know. Beautiful horse. Xx

I too am showing my 2 year old this year - and loving it. I am doing local venues and am only doing it for her experience - however, I do like to win and have had some success.

You will enter the ring and walk round the edge of the arena on the right rein, you will be standing on your horses left. I have found that my youngster walks on better if she is not leading the 'ride'. Then you will probably take it in turns to trot on, so you will need your youngster to trot on when you ask. And really bound on yourself trying to stay at the horses shoulder. I had someone chase up my youngster at home to practice for this. You will then line up and be asked to bring your horse out to present to the Judge. Walk up to judge smile and stand your horse side on about 5ft away. Try to teach your horse to stand up almost square for the judge. Side on - legs furthest away framed by the legs closest. Its hard to explain, and if you can teach your horse to do it, please let me know how you did it!

You will then walk away from the judge, business like walk and stay at horse shoulder, then turn horse away from you (round to right) and trot straight at judge who will step out of the way. then return back to line up.

So - Stay at horses shoulder
Teach to walk out and trot on obediently and stand square.

What to wear -
Dark trousers with white horse legs and beige trousers with dark legs
Hat obviously and shirt (not white, can put cheap white shirt in wash with two new yellow dusters and get a nice buff shirt cheaply) and tie. Tweed jacket. Sturdy boots to run in.
Show cane and gloves (dark)
My youngster has an in-hand bridle with pretty browband, she is a small warmblood type . I have a coupling on the bit and a leather lead. no chain.

Like I said, I am not a serious showing competitor and will happily be corrected by others. I will try to upload some pics of my own if i can.
 
What to wear - As per this photo (not the most flattering of the pony, but shows me OK)

Tweed jacket with shirt & tie (collar fitting closely), beagler or riding hat, trousers and boots with brown gloves and a cane if required.

Trousers should contrast to legs - I tend to wear beige or navy
