I have a youngster, quarter morgan quarter warmblood and half tb, she is 10months old and a bright bay, im looking to do some inhand showing this season and need some help.

i was going to do inhand 3 years and under and wanted to know:
i) bridle or halter?
ii) and what to wear?

also because of her breeding she is quite fine, so was looking to do inhand 3 year and under riding horse and again wanted to know the same as above and whether it differs...

this is only a local show..thanks :)

A filly yearling would wear an in hand bridle without a bit - google filly slip, for a picture. I have seen some fillies mouthed and wearing an in hand bridle, especially the bigger hunter types who may be on the fresh/strong side.

If you are just going to a local/riding club show you could use a leather headcollar and put a browband on it, use a leather lead rein and carry a cane.

If you go to a county show then a filly slip would look nicer and be correct.

At local level I would be surprised if there are many in hand classes to chose from. It will be more likely to be an in hand class all breeds/types welcome and very tricky to judge in my opinion !

At county level you will find young horse classes for everything from hacks, riding horses, hunters, sport horses etc.

Good luck and have fun.

In Hand Bridle with brass buckles and a little rubber bit with Gold rings! If you havent got one you can usually pick up decent 2nd hand ones off forums etc with bit included (much better as then at least the leather is soft).

Make sure you have a nice long leather rein attached to it (if possible with a loop at the end) as then if they play up you have a bit of room and the handle to keep hold of!)

Only like foals with filly slips on, yearlings - 3yo's in hand Bridle with rubber bit, 4yo + a normal bridle with normal bit.

If a riding Horse class you will need a coloured browband. You will need a tweed jacket, hat and cord trousers!

Honest best thing to do is look on equestrian photographer websites at past shows hunt down the class you would enter and see what everyone else is wearing!
