I have been riding a youngster who has been backed about 8wks now. Uptill now she's been very calm and sensible.

I got on her today..and as soon as my right leg came over her as i got on she took off bucking across the school???????

She is a little star to hack out..she's not bucked once.

Do you think there could be a reason for doing this..is she trying me out and going through a bit of a cheeky stage???

No i made sure i got on her very quietly with her not long being broken in.

It seemed toatally out of character for her!

When i went to get her out of the field this morning, the tractor was coming in with a big bale of hay. Do you think she was hungry and had a strop because she wanted to be in the field with her friends eating??? the field is right next to the areana, so she would of seen the hay being put in-??

I like to have someone at the head for a long time after backing. It's such a delicate little issue & easy for them to become problematic. Mine has been spooked a couple of times when I was getting on - by external stuff, but because there was someone there he wasn't allowed to do more than hump his back.

It could just be this or if not my first instint is that the saddle is uncomfortable.

Its a youngster. NOTHING is every ordinary with a youngster. Everything is new, and possibly confusing if she is not sure what you are asking if her.
Could just be something caught her eye and caused her to spook.
That is the fun of babies!
